    :D

    Hi people,

I bought my Ti4400 back in the days when it was pretty much top of the range, and I have not been keeping up with the news on graphics cards these days.
I want to get a pretty much top of the range AGP. I never followed who was winning the Nvidia/Radeon battle so can I get some opinions on the higher range cards out there.

This is mainly for Battlefield 2

    Top of the range: Nvidia 6800 Ultra/ATI x850 PE - €500
    Best price/performance ratio: Nvidia 6800 GT/ATI x800xl - €300

Hmmm, I have always gone Nvidia... so the 6800GT sounds decent enough. Where is that price from? Komplett?

It doesn't matter if you only have a x4 port a new card should still work in it without any speed loss.

But if its a x2 only you will have problems.

Its 8X, I upgraded computer a while back. Card is the oldest thing in it.

Youll need more than a fancy gcard to play BF2...
    Think P4 3.2ghz+ or Athlon643200++

Pfft, I have no troubles on medium with a 1800+

But with a card like that youd be wanting high_veryhigh setting

Make sure that the PSU is up to the job of powering a 6800GT. They're greedy.

    350w+ bare minimum
    Preferably a 400w+

I have the PCI Express version of that card(€20 cheaper!) and with a AMD 939 3000+ OC from 1800MHz to 2250MHz it can play BF2(full game) perfectly fine with 77.72 drivers at medium and some settings at High quality.
Its the first game that slowwws down a lot with everything on High.

Not a bad card at the time(paid €129) though it wont be a long time before it begins to show its age.

The nVidia 6600 256MB is worth it for those who want something nice and cheap to do the job.

For those with more money get a 6800Gt.

    350 W plus isn't the bare minimum for a 6800gt.

How do you think people with shuttles run them on a 240w PSU ?

You just need to have a good quality PSU. liek a forton 300w would have no trouble

probably because the shuttles usually only run with 1 hd, maybe a single case fan, and motherboard will be power optimised for the form factor.

the 6800gt on jes seems to be the best value for money atm

Are the whole range of cards not due for a price drop with the launch of the 7800? I wouldn't buy a high end card until they do.

    The 6800GT 256 arrived.
Jesus, its huge, takes up 2 slots, two heatsink/fans and all surrounded by an aluminium cage. And it needs to be plugged into the power supply.
    Its a Gainward card.
Didnt quite expect the sheer size of it though.
