Shooters not happy with travel law

GUN clubs have called for the scrapping of new measures requiring hunters from the Republic to carry visitor permits when travelling through the North to shooting events in Britain or abroad.

Under a law which came into force in the North in February, Republic firearm holders need visitors' permits which must be applied for to the PSNI at least six weeks before travel.

Visitors have to have a North sponsor resident to apply on behalf of the firearms holder.

The National Association of Regional Game Councils, which represents 23,000 members in almost 900 gun clubs described the measure as "utterly illogical."

It's a huge step backwards allright, even more so for the target shooters who go up North to shoot in competition. Especially since the best 50m ranges and clubs (there's a difference, obviously) in the country and the best pistol ranges in the country (at least for the moment) are up North.

Do you have to do all that even if your just passing through? What are they worried about , some illegal firearms might get into the north :D:p
