Geek Chic?

It's odd, I should be ostracised for wearing t-shirts with odd geeky/amusing messages on them but for some reason I get random people coming upto me asking where I buy them. Generally the woman/man tries to start a conversation with me then... ;)

I don't mind, I like wearing odd comfy t-shirts when out for a few pints (as opposed to throwing on a shirt or somesuch when going somewhere "choosy").

Anyone else experience this? Or am I alone?

what kind of shirts are we talking about here???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,644 ✭✭✭✭nesf

Varying from, standard enough Family guy ones to obscure geek ones (sad) like 2+2=5 etc.

Think along the lines of ThinkGeek.com, or Tshirthell.com :)

"Stupidity Causes Cancer" is a personal favourite.

Can't say I've come across anyone who's treated me differently for wearing strange t-shirts.
But then, I probably wouldn't notice if i was being ostracized...

I've got an "All your base..." shirt and it gets a LOT of people either trying to read it or asking me what the hell it means.

It's amusing to walk down the street and watch people struggle to read your shirt before you move out of sight.

I love those kind of T-shirts myself, the weirder the better.

I think its about time I pointed this site out: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts

I have a playboy bunny t-shirt that I quite like, and a small back t-shirt with this little slogan in a dictionary definition style; "reality (n), something that happens when you are not playing computer games".

I think t-shirts can be acceptable pub-wear if they're not huge and baggy and multicoloured.

    I have that one too!

For a while, I was worried that people might interpret it as anti-gaming but I did a thread on AH about it and most people saw it as a pro-gaming tee.

    I'm a big t-shirts person.
Too many "Serial Killer" and "Kontraband" t-shirts myself - but have gotten a fair few complements.
I have one with a pic of Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) mixing chemicals for the everlasting gob-stopper and it's titled "Dealer". I've gotten a lot of questions about that one.

I only ever had one geek one and it was a freeby, so I never bought a geek t-shirt which means....

    Discusss with reference's and quotes.

Anyway it came from Macromedia for the launch of Flash 5, on the front it said "how in f**** did they do that" got everyones attentino and was great in clubs.

only 2 t-shirts I have with writing on them aren't geeky ... first one was a huge black t that came to my knees when I first got it ...

classic: 'Same s*!t different day' I wore to a few exams.

and the other 'I gave up sex, drugs and alcohol... it was the worst 20mins of my life' ... worn to oxygen and ironically the gym.

Don't think I still have either tshirt.

    Ah, the old

"there are 10 people who understand binary: those that do, and those that don't"

Classic. The un-nerdy can't figure it out, untill you tell them, and even then, they're sometimes puzzled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Yes, absolute genius. I can imagine the puzzled looks from my peers as they are baffled by the message and struggle to decipher it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I have the Penny Arcade one with 'Jesus is f'ing metal'... :)
And a blue one with a picture of a kid playing Super Mario Bros on a NES with 'Nintendo is Rad' under it.
    I want this one: 362bgPowder-Blue-Cherry.jpg
    and this one:186bgBlue.jpg
    and this: noplace-babydoll.jpg

    Yes, I'm a nerd.

My dad got me this for my birthday and I constantly get people asking me what it means, or who Schrodinger is. And I once had someone condescending ask if I knew what it meant. I assured her that I wouldn't be wearing the t-shirt if I was unaware of Schrodinger's thought experiment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

Nesf was wearing that at the beers yesterday!

"There's no place like localhost" would sound a bit better tbh (if a smidgen less nerdy...)

I have some Happy Bunny tshirts (they rock)

I made a few of my own, like Penny Arcade Rhino vs Baby, and "pr0nstar"

I used to have a really cool one I stole off another tshirt site that says "I beat the internet. The last guy was really tough". I miss that tshirt, I think I'll have to remake it.

I considered buying the tshirt I stole my tagline from.

While being a fair old geek, I must admit that I prefer plain t-shirts.

Having said that, I have a wonder woman transfer at home that I'm going to iron onto the back of one of my t-shirts. Wonder Woman rocks!!

Good iron-ons. Not sure if PC World sell good ones (likely they do tho), I bought mine online last time I was buying DVD-Rs.
