    Longford.

Crossan Cable. 1024/300 (20:1 contention). No cap. €39.90.
    Eircom DSL: 1024/128 (48:1 contention). 4 Mb cap. €29.99.

Crosson provides twice the bandwidth due to lower contention ratio allowing much greater use of the bandwidth but for 10 euros more. Certainly beats dial-up for those whom Eircom have opted not to provide broadband in Longford town.

The point I was making was that it does not require a big market to provide broadband. It is too easy, imo, to use Ireland's small size to excuse lack of progress.

Yes, but the point raised and I was arguing against was about competition to Eircom and the idea that Ireland's small size was to blame. If very small operators can compete (in their small areas) then larger competition is also possible. We don't have competition in Ireland for reasons other than mere size. The lack of competition means that Eircom gets away with what it does.
