NTL INEX Peering

    Outstanding work by NTL :D

    A few weeks ago I posted a thread complaining that NTL didn't seem to be peering in INEX. This meant that packets destined for an Irish site went to the UK first, before returning to Ireland. This caused higher ping times, about 45ms to Irish sites compared to a much better figure of about 25ms on Eircoms DSL service.

    Well great news, it now seems pings to many Irish servers (but not all*) are now going through the INEX, meaning ping times that are in the mid teens, beating even Eircom DSL :)

    This is great work by the NTL engineers, they are obviously reading boards and respond when they see a problem. :cool: Keep up the good work, I think we all owe them a few pints.

    * It seems servers hosted by hosting365 and BT Ireland are peering with NTL through INEX, but it seems Eircom hosted sites and maube others are still going through the UK. This might just be a temporary problem.

    --- www.netsource.ie ping statistics ---
    20 packets transmitted, 20 received, 0% packet loss, time 19025ms
    rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 23.952/25.983/28.851/1.194 ms

    Some others are still going through the UK, which work fine on Netsource DSL:
