Broadband wiring from the pole to the house...help!

    HI All

Recently I discovered that our exahange in Abbeyleix became broadband enabled. After jumping for joy and ordering my line and modem etc from Digiweb I installed everything on Friday night...to find it not working.

Now, I checked the wiring in the house and discovered that the house is only wired to the pole accross the road with 2 wires for the phone. My understanding is that these equate to the red / green in the phone junction boxes. Im told I need black and yellow (i.e. another 2 wires for DSL). IS this correct?

Assuming that it is correct and the house is wired incorrectly, I tried to get this accross to eircom...and im still trying to explain the issue to them.

Any suggestions? Anyone know of someone that can fix this for me?

    Thanks a mill

ADSL comes in over the red and green wires, just like the voice. It just uses a different frequency to voice.... that's what the filters (little things that you should've gotten with your modem) are for.

Edit: how do you mean "it's not working"? Are you getting any error messages? Any strange lights flashing on your modem?

Yea, Like andrew said it comes in over the Red and Green wires. If your able to make voice calls ok and eircom said your line was up to scratch well then it should be ok. Try calling eircom broadband support and check if your line has been jumpered yet. When i first (foolishly) got eircom many years ago i got the equipment 2 weeks before my line was jumpered!

Ring Digiweb and ask if your line has been activated yet. It probably hasn't and hence you can't connect. If it is active then a call to their tech support line might be in order.

    Thanks folks.

It turned out to be a dodgy connection on eircom's side which they fixed yesterday and im now up and running.

Thanks for all the helpful responses
