So I'm a level 22 mage, and im just wondering what would be the best profession to take, I've got a lot of mixed responses, so if any one could shed a light on the subject would be much appreaciated.

Skinning and mining are good money makers. Sell what you skin/mine in AH. Will help you with your mount at level 40. If you want, when you've got enough gold for your mount, you can unlearn your professions and take up new ones. Herbalism/alchemy go hand in hand for making useful potions. Tailoring/enchanting or tailoring/skinning also.

    are you on Bladefist grom?

i'd say tailoring / skinning is the best for a mage, maybe tailoring / mining

Personally, I'm a big fan of engineering for a mage.
I mean face it, if you want decent player made cloth gear, you can get it from your guild or from the AH at a reasonable markup. Same goes for potions.

But engineering requires you to have the skill to use the items.

Add to this, the Battle Chicken, the rocket boots, the net-o-matic, the arcanite dragon, the repair bot, etc. etc.

The net-o-matic alone, gives a mage an instant, ranged root. Allowing you to dismount, root, sheep and gank.

All that said, I'd go with mining and skinning till 40+. Collect as much ore as you can and sell most or all of the leather.

Once you have your mount, power level engineering ftw!

Cant emphasize how good (gnomish) engineering is for cloth wearers. Those jumper cables can save a wipe (tho not quite as good as with a rogue!).

Only the XL version are. The other ones can be used by any eng.

They can both be used by any engineer, only Goblin engineers can *make* the XL ones though.

As has been said. The XL ones can be made by goblin but given to Gnomish.

The world enlarger works the same way iirc.

The transporter however needs gnomish/goblin engineering to work so cant be given away to other side.
