Thats a good quality 1Mb connection Overlord!!!

Shame its only available to a very small population due to Chorus management being absolute idiots!!!

Have you heard anything about chorus offering higher download speeds in the future??

I have called Chorus.... BB will not be available in Celbridge in the next 10 months...........................

    Esat BT it'll be.

no trouble with the service that i can recall. speed has been upgraded to 1mbit down. Routing is bad to ireland though. everything gets routed straight through Uk regardless of destination.

How much does it cost?

30 euro per month if u have the tv as well

Connection costs €50 for full technician install to one PC in your home

Unlimited surfing for a fixed rate of €35 per month

    _____________Chorus
    Price_________€35
    Downstream___1024k
    Upstream______256k
    Download Limit__20GB

NTL offer a similar download speed for €25 a month...the sooner one company owns both Chorus+NTL the better for all.

    Jeff,

I used to live in Celbridge, there used to be a community wireless network. It cost around EUR200 to install equipment, and then 20EUR/month for 1Mbit upload/download and no limits. This was 2 years ago so if they have moved with the times it could be cheaper/faster. IIRC the Guys offering it were near Tesco.

I had the Chorus cable TV service there, and there was no problems, the main reason i took it was that chorus dont enforce there contracts, atleast no with the TV service.

I am now in the Limerick area and still have Chorus Cable TV, the service is much the same, except i get few extra channels: Discovery, UKGold and some commedy classic channel, but now MTV

On the occasions i have dealt with customer services, they have been friendly, and i think they have CS office in Clonmel, or in that area.

If Chorus Cablenet was availible in Limerick i think i'd go for it.

www.cablenet.ie -> check your address and it tells you what services are available on it.
For Cork, it has been available in Kenley/Model Farm Road/Bishopstown for many months now. They are currently upgrading with works in the Mayfield/Lotabeg area ( behind ballinderry park to be precise ).

If you are able to use VoIP reliably on it, the service offering looks decent, considering there aint no NTL here.

Everything said about Chorus on this thread is true. They really are DIRE.

We get "digital" tellie over an old mesh dish à la a sh1te box from Sagem. It's ridiculously slow. People familiar with Sky would laugh and run. When not frozen, or just plain dead, it suffers from signal strength/tuning problems. The picture is frequently pixellated... where it turns into large one-inch squares.
    sgm0137ge.th.jpg

CS is a also joke. We pay our cable bill (€29.99) every month without fail; but they still telephone to push for immediate payment. How money-hungry are these people exactly??

When I heard about receivership I actually hoped this would be the end of Chorus.... once n for all.

    RE broadband:
Even though I live in a brand spankin new housing development in Limerick city... they (Chorus) reckon BB is another "six to twelve months away."
I doubt it'll ever come... they are fundamentally inept.

btw: how do I get SKY without a phone line..? Does a wireless BB connection suffice?

Holy shít they have finally brough cable BB to the bishopstown area!!!!

I need proof as it was "only months away" a couple of years back!!!

    ======================================================
Just checked 3 of my old addresses in bishopstown and it appears there database has yet to be updated...or is up to date and there is still no cable Broadband there!

i just noticed this thread. I realise it's a bit out of date , but maybe someone will be interested in the figures.
I've got Chorus cablenet, been on it since it came out, must be three years now or more! I don't have any complaints about it. it works!! Haven't a clue about the telly part of it.

here's three speed tests i've taken tonight, i don't know how they compare to other offerings, it suits for what i want anyway.

a traceroute to layeredtech.com ( US via Savvis ) boards.ie and jolt.co.uk would be lovely ( with pings if possible ). There have been reports and thus possible issues, that Chorus peers only in the UK, which might have an effect on the above tests.

I’m still not sure if the speed is satisfactory compared to other products, I find it suits my needs, maybe its slow compared to others! It costs €35 a month, don't know if there's anything cheaper in my area.

ah so they still only peer at LINX in london, interesting to see the savvis trace go to london, france, then the US, whereas eircom for instance go straight to at&t in US, and straight on Savvis, pinging from hosting365.ie to layeredtech.com again shows it going to Linx, but straight onto savvis from there.

Ah well, seems ok, if you dont get bitten by disconnections/unavailability or 'contention' roflmao.

    :)
I've rarely had any unavailability like maybe three/four periods all under 24 hours since i got it. It never disconnects as far as i can see.

Because there's about seven of us in my area...i don't think contention is gonna be an issue ;)

I doubt he hacked the modem.... If you search posts for the weekend, you will see I was getting speeds of up to 18Mb on Chorus.
