Hi! got two tattoos already-both black, filled and simple. thinking of getting another one though and i'm very curious about a white ink design.
Is it true only certain tattooists will use white ink?
Does anyone have one that they're willing to show off?
Any reccommendations on where to get it done?
Anyone got experience of using them to put borders arounnd darker colours?

The reason most tattooists don't use white ink is because it doesn't really show up at all so there's no real point in it. If your looking to make your tatts stand out more try some grey shading

Well another mian reason is the fact that all white tattoos can fade faster but also it is very difficult to tattoo with white ink because it is hard to see!

Like with most artists,if you explain to them that you understand all the risks and that you realise it will probly take at least one touch up,i cant see any decent artist turning it down.
Make sure you check portfolios though and happy hunting!

The original poster in this thread has some white work done, take a look if you want http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=226952

A lot of artists wont do them for two reasons mostly, the results are not what was expected and people get upset and also the purple ink from the stencils can bleed into the white ink and it's not white anymore.

If you are very certain of what you want done and more importantly how it will turn out and your expectations are set correctly then no reason you wont convince an artist, as long as you promise them not to whinge that you cant see anything when they told you so. Also it would be best to get an artist who is confident without stencils as they are a major problem for white.

For detail work or highlighting as you were asking I think they can be quite good, they're just not a very bold visual statement on their own.
