Summer time is usually a slow time for games releases...

    Current Games

Role-playing/Adventure: Not that many notable RPGs in recent years
    Star Wars: KotoR 2
    Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Neverwinter Nights +Expansions - Literally hundreds of quality modules

    RTS:
    Rome: Total War
    Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War

and hopefully in two months(or less)

    Role-playing/adventure:
Psychonauts (well, it is available in the US now...)
    Dreamfall

    RTS/Strategy:
    Age of Empires III
    Earth 2160 (Aug'05)
    Dragonshard (Sep'05)
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - Winter Assault (Sep'05)
Star Wars: Empire at War (TBC)
    UFO: Aftershock (TBC)

I haven't recommended any FPS because I don't play them.

Well it looks good, but I hope they put a better storyline onto this one.

the last one was basically Diablo with updated graphics - oh and a mule. ;)

There is no point getting BF2 unless you plan on playing online.

    Games that should be bought....

Firstly I'm assuming you have a gaming machine and not something your parents bought to play solitaire on.

So in no particular order except genre.

    FPS:
    Half life 1 & 2 with HL1 looking dated
    Aliens vs Predator2
    Chronicles of Riddick
    Farcry
    Jedi Knight II Jedi Academy
    Max Payne 1 & 2
    No One Lives Forever 2
Call of Duty and exp pack United offensive (highly recommended)
    SWAT 4
Operation Flashpoint and all the exp packs (highly recommended but dated and an aquired taste)

that should do you for a bit on the FPS side

    RTS

    Command and Conquer Generals
    Warhammer Dawn of War
    Rome Total war
    Warcraft III I suppose
Hostile Waters for a dated but unique RTS
    Homeworld 1 and 2
    Rise of Nations
    Stronghold

    RPG:

    Neverwinter Nights
    Balders Gate II
    Morrowind
    Vampire the Masqerade
    Knights of the Old Republic.

Erm that's all the old games I can think of that you should play at some stage, millions more tho in fairness

Games that are exciting me in a disturbingly nerdy way are:

    FEAR looks fab

Fahrenheit: depending on if they can make it work

Black and White 2: Hopefully this one will be fun

    Call of Duty 2

Dark Sector: After seeing a video of this made from the ingame engine it made me wanna cry, looks brill

Nothing else on the horizon that interests me.

Not in your categories, but GTA san andreas is great. You can get GTA3 and Vice City for peanuts too.

Not so. I got BFV and BF1942 purely for single player and a bit of fun. Wouldn't expect much difference from BF2 in this regard for me personally if I did buy it, so I'm sure others feel the same.

Not forgetting Lord of the Rings: Battle for middle Earth, a very polished and slick RTS. Also Stronghold 2 is worth a look as a good castle-building/siege warfare sim.

lets not forget far cry for the shear beauty of it

    ...ummm pretty

whats the most advance game out of the moment spec's wise

ill be building a pc hopefully to run the game on high res

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Doom 3 would probably be the most advanced, but IMO Far Cry and HL2 look better.

F.E.A.R. is out soon to, that will give them all a run for their money.

Far Cry is still the game that to quote from somewhere "brings even the highest spec of systems to it's knees." Rightly so, especially when it's up at high resolutions with AA and AF.
I'm not sure how well it runs on 7800's/FX-57's etc. but I'll see how it runs on my new rig and report back :) .

I agree with Ciaran, that and HL2 have the best engine's at the moment. Although come Xmas time, Elder Scrolls IV is gonna be beautiful. That and FEAR, and next year there's Quake Wars and X3 and Operation Flashpoint 2 and......*drool's over E3 movies*

Got my vote, cant wait for this game.

Would BF2 be one of the most resource hogging games???

I can run HL2 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed, 8xAF and 0xAA (not neeeded at such high rez's..

BF struggles at 1440x900 with most maxed out and AA off...

You ever tried Farcry at maxed out settings and high rez's.

Anyway it's a somewhat moot point cos a poorly coded game that looks **** can bring a pc to it's knees while a real decently coded game that looks stunning quite often won't.
