I`m going into 1st year next year most probably so i was wondering what the rugby team was like?

I assume they are crap cause most college teams seem to be, but like is it taken even a half way seriously?

The way the rugby works for colleges is

    1. you have the likes of UCD and UCC in the AIL

    2. you have the other colleges which are broken into 2 divisions ( i think)
The 1st division consisting of teams like Athlone (buccs), WIT, LIT and a few others. needless to say athlone win it nearly all the time with the other 2 being the strongest.
Maynooth have been challenging every year for the past 4/5 years, reaching the final of div 2 twice.
There are some very good players mixed with average players and a few newbies thrown in.

This year there will be a full time development officer and i think there are scholarships going this year. There are quite a few top class players around and hopefully this will attract them to play.

at what standard do you play?

Last season I plaid with Navan R.F.C. U-18s and U-20s and with St. Patricks Classical School. So it would`nt be to high of a level but I have plaid against top teams in the cup with Pats (i.e. Andrews, St.Pauls, St.Gerrards, Skerries, Mount Temple and Belvedere).

I presume its to late to get a scholorship now? All the pats team were offered one for Athlone. I reckon I could qualify, I`ve won an All Ireland, 4 Leinster club medals, 1 Junior cup Section A medal and 1 Senior Cup Section A medal. I also won Player of the Year with the school scoring 7 cup tries.

Thanks for all the info, I really apreaciate it.

Do you play with a club at all?

Used to play with North Kildare, have played with St.Marys and in NZ too.
sounds like you would be handy enough! Scholarships wouldn't be offered until people are in college so wouldn't worry about that...you would be the right type of player for one though.
It all depends what you want to do.
    1. a good degree & play AIL standard - Trinity,UCD UCC
2.Average enough dip/deg and train at a very high standard - Athlone
3.Good degree and play at a lower standard along with maybe Barnhall - Maynooth

That's the best way to sum it up i think

hehe, Well I want a good degree and play for an AIL club. I think I`m good enough. Alot of people have left Navan from my team to play with the likes of Lansdone and Clontarf last year when they left school last year. But to be honest I`m happy enough staying with Navan for a year or two at least and hope we get promoted to the AIL (I`d find it odd playing for another club, it would seem like betrayel, especially Barnhall considering we`ve always kicked there ass at youths level it`d be like going down a level not going up two divisions!).

I had trials for Leinster but ended up breaking my two fingers and nose so I was ruled out. The guy that took my place went on to play with Ireland, the bastard.

Whats your open side flanker like?

    What position do you play?

I can`t wait now! I have`nt played rugby in a long time so I`m mad to dump a few people. Although I got a bad shoulder injury a few months ago. I`ve got a bad feeling about it, I reckon I could be out for the whole of next season (might need an operation). It was so stupid! It was before a match and we were warming up playing tip and I made a break and this guy that does my head in was chasing me. He was shouting "I`m gona get you" and all that so when I reached the line I did a big dive and ended up witht this injury. I`m going to a specialist next week so I`ll see for sure how big of a probnlem its going to be,

They used to train Mondays in Barnhall - which is between Leixlip & Celbridge near Hewlet Packard

Home matches played on the new pitch behind arts block, near apartments.
    matches were weds last year
    let the research begin
