Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

MS Excel: how do I do this?

I want to generate a list of numbers from 00001 to 50000 in Excel (in a single column).
Obviously I don't want to have to type in each number in each cell.
I'm sure there is some function in Excel to do this type of thing, but frankly, I don't have a clue. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    00001
    00002
    etc.

    Install the data analysis toolpak

excel > tools > add-ins > analysis toolpak (select both of them)

Then follow this guide - http://www.vuse.vanderbilt.edu:8888/es130/lectures/lecture7/random.html

    Its easier than that.

Type 1 in the top cell of the column.
Select the cell, hold the shift key, and page down to cell 50000 (all cells between 1 and 50000 should be highlighted).
Click Edit/Fill > Series. Take defaults, click OK.
Now highlight the column, rightclick anywhere in the highlighted section, select "Format Cells"
Select "Number" tab, select "Custom" from the list, enter the value 00000 as type.

    That should do it.

Think that would work but you can just
Enter "1" in top column, then select the cell, hold the CTRL key, and grab bottom right BOX and drag down to cell 50000

This creates a list of 1-50000

Dont need all that edit/fill stuff!!!

Now select all the cells (1-50000) and rightclick anywhere in the highlighted section, select "Format Cells"
select "Custom" from the list, enter the value 00000 as type.

A bit quicker than ur method...(but not much)
