Can we allow community forum mod's to ban users?

Hi... quick query... can it be allowed that (non-private) Community Forum moderators can ban specific users, temporarily or otherwise, from making postings on their Community Forum (without, of course, affecting the other boards on Boards.ie) ...?

Hi Bard, i think i know who your talking about. the problem with that is it may drive the "person" into other forums where they will start to post rubbish aswell. which has started to happen. just my 2 cents.

Oh ... nobody in particular ...

just a thought - seeing as the general administration of these forums is left up to their moderators, I thought it might be left up to them to "weed out undesirables", so to speak, without affecting the main boards of the site.

Personlaly, I don't think a 24 hour cooling off period is a good idea, purely because the primary thing that is going to make people register is so that they can respond to a topic they are interested in, and if you have to wait 24 hours are you really going to bother??

Oh no- I don't personally really want the "power" to "12-click" people, Adam- that would mean banning people from the entire boards site. That's an option that only the Administrator users have, and so it should be.

I'd rather have the option to ban and unban users from just the Community Forum I moderate... (in my case that's IrelandOffline) and think that it might be useful for other Community mod's to have such an option.

There is a general problem with this idea (and many other unsolicited good ideas).

UBB doesnt support it and we dont have the time nor inclination to hack it in...

Hence its not do able.


Also, on this specific point I think we had enough of a backlash against Karma to make this a Baaad idea. I like our mods but I also dont want to abdicate that amount of power to them either.

Mail me and I'll mail any person causing a problem. Failure to heed a warning is a good reason for 12-clicking.
