looks like after the present extremely cool spell that things are gonna warm up alot and about time too, looking at the forecast on the bbc it shows 25C for Dublin by Sunday/Monday and things may even warm up even further into next week with perhaps at least a week of very warm sunny conditions. The bbc long range forecast shows a static high pressure over us between monday 18th july and july 31st with plenty of warm sunshine. lets home this turns out to be true.

    http://www2.wetter3.de/animation.html

look at the temperature profile over the next few days turn from green to bright orange over the next week indicating much warmer weather for us.

Tricky from that but it looks like the pressure is building from the southwest following on from northwest airflow so hopefully not to bad.

clicky linky for 15 days Looks very promising!

Bit of a dip on Monday evening though :)

    LoL

minus 232 celcius on that (untill they fix it)
Wcheck if he was the only one left unfrozen would probably be in full orgasm :D

High 20's is very likely from sunday on by the way.

If some inland place got a 28 or 29 it wouldnt surprise me.

A 30 somewhere in Ireland would be shocking though but I couldnt rule it out given the synoptics :)

Yep Sunday and Monday look extremely hot but it will feel even hotter
than the expected highs of 26-28c which isnt usually the case when
we get warm spells. Dew points will be nearing 20c! so it will feel
    very very muggy.

It should be the warmest day of year on Sunday or Monday and
i feel for the poor old Oxegen goers :o:D;)

its likely to be alot cooler along the coasts with sea breezes tho, maybe only reaching 22C maximum in Dublin but it would feel so much warmer than that, we could see up to 26c or even 27c well inland. Met Eireann have us down for 20c to 26c, BBC & Sky have us down for 25c.

    http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=Westmeath&day=3

actual temperatures to hit about 26c on Monday in the midlands here with a real feel temperature of about 37c:)

i think thats warm enough for most sun lovers here

Possibly but that may be mitigated by a slight south west flow to the winds which is entirely possible.
Such a scenario which could happen given the shape of that high pressure area and would make coastal areas as hot if not hotter than areas inland.

Knowing the flukey nature of these things-yeah probably wont happen though but if it does(and it could) we'll be hotter than SE England for a change.

The high humidities are interesting though from a thunderstorm point of view for later in the week as the situation starts to break down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

It's all to do with the orientation of the High Pressure which in this
situation is very fickle. It would be foolish to cmment on where
exactly the wind will be blowing from in Dublin later this weekend.
It could be blowing from the east on Sunday and the west on Monday
that's how fickle this set-up is.

But i would guess that any sea breeze wont be as strong as you would think.

I'd expect Dublin Airport to register 25 on Sunday and 26 on Monday.

Feeling even hotter than that though! ;)

myself and wcheck in agreement on the scenario-shock horror :D

Ive woken up this morning to a ground soaking wet! I didnt know there was any showers forecast! I don't like the north east breeze met éireann have plotted on the current map. Where I live is very prone to fogs from the sea. A couple of months ago, on a day with sunny spells forecast, we got fog that then lasted for 30 hours. I see that the temperature crashes on Wednesday according to accuweather to 17. What happened to the possible heatwave?

The good weather is due to take hold from tonight. This morning's rain and drizzle is due to a weak warm front that has been forecast all week.

The 132-hour chart shows the temperature drop on Wednesday will be due to this cold front below. I imagine that mid-Atlantic high will dominate the weather by the end of the week, bringing a return to fine weather, although the chart for Wednesday that's issued tomorrow will probably look completely different to this one.

Despite it being Dull and cloudy places like Cork and Kilkenny were already at 19 or 20 c this morning at 10 am

Add sun tomorrow and you know what will happen...
    It will get very hot

The air mass over us is warm already and capable of exploding heatwise with sun.

Opinion is divided on what is going to happen towards the middle or end of the week, but my hunch is telling me that high pressure will win out so mainly settled, and thus any cooling may be only temporary :)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

according to the bbc its gonna stay mainly cloudly an cool over us over next few days with temperatures only getting to 22c (they seem to change their mind every few hours, previously they had 26c and sun for us) and so far there right, its a cool 18c here near dublin and drizzly... up in Aberdeen its already 24c and sunshine... but its also very cool, foggy and damp over the traditonal oven of the south east of england with luton only at 14c with fog and centre of london at 16c with cloud. lets hope this annoying cloud breaks up for us and we finally see the 25c's and 26c's that we were meant to get.

Ive also heard that the break down on Wednesday to cooler normal weather(not as cold as we had during this week gone by) is very temporary and that the heat will be back from next weekend onwards.

The suns been peaking through the cloud here on and off during the morning here in s wicklow and theres a lot of blue sky to the East over the sea.
Its warm and nudging 21c but to the west over the hills it is black and very foggy/drizzly looking.

I'm expecting clearer skies from tomorrow though and warm sunshine :)

so far this has been pretty dissapointing where I live at least for sun lovers, its still a grey cloudy day here and it looks like it could rain any minute altho it is warm, will the cloud eventually break today? its about 20 or 21c outside.

The bbc are still saying it will stay mainly cloudly and 'much cooler' over Ireland with most of the uk seeing unbroken sunshine and temperatures around 30c.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Well where i am it's pure blue skies!

    And very warm.! ;)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

it appears to be sunny right on the eastern coastline but inland its cloud all the way, and no sign of it breaking same as yesterday:(

anyone else stuck in cloudy conditions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Looks like 10-15 miles inland convection is occuring fascinating
looking at the latest sat pic a uniform clearence for 15 miles from the coast all
the way down the coast :D

Highest temp from the NRA site at 1pm was 26.7c on the N2 in co Louth-that should surely see a 28c if it stays sunny, its well inland as should the
    N21 down in Limerick-26c

Here we are stuck on 23c with a strong sea breeze now but beautifull clear blue skies, nice and not opressively hot like some places,a walk on the beach and a swim - me runs, bbfn pc \o/

Gonzo - head for the beach :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Just a light pleasent sea breeze here! Kinda refreshing and certainly
    not strong ;)

sun finally starting to come out now after 2/3 cloudy days in a row! very little breeze here, hardly noticeable. feels very warm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Louth with the hottest temperatures in the country?! Miracles do happen. I'm glad to see my pessimism was unfounded. Anyway things have cooled down now a bit over here but it's blue skies all the way. I predicted the opposite to what actually happened - all the clouds are now to the west despite the sea breeze.

Here's for more tomorrow fingers crossed :D

Btw the coolest place in Ireland happens to be the Arklow bypass as of 1500 on the NRA website (20.6). Earthman was unlucky.

Rosslare was even cooler, it barely managed to scrape 18c by the afternoon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭stag39

    where's the barbi????? :D

Well the NRA site on the N4 in co west meath has reached a whole 11 degree's warmer than Rosslare at an amazing 29.3 C !!!

Further up the road in longford its 27c

Breeze lightened off here but still there and still a nice 23c :) It obviously feels a lot hotter but not as hot as it does up on the N4 I'd image, being over 29c at 4pm!

Waterford does'nt have any weather according to the NRA :(

22.8 in Dungarvan and 26.2 in Clonmel.

    N4 Ballinalack
    Date Sun, Jul 10
    Time (24hr) 18:00
    Air Temp 29.7° C.
    85.5 ° F.
    Humidity 50%

    I'd call that a technical 30c !! :)

Boy wouldn't you love the athmosphere to destabilise a bit and have a cold front traveling down through that kind of heat - think of the thunderstorm possibilities :D

Cold front coming down on wenesday through less hot conditions by then but lets see what happens :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Its still 25 in Ballinalack, me mops brow and I'm in only 18 degrees.

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

NRA Ballinalack is now at 24 exactly. That's the temperature it was in my part of Louth during the afternoon and the above temperature was recorded at 11pm! To those more knowledgeable, can this be possible or is the thermometer a little bit on the dodgy side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    I'd say it's correct 22c in Clones now... ;)

Very very warm out there with now winds and a very
warm atmosphere with very high pressure..

    Tomorrow i also tip 30c.. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

24 degrees at night... I thought that wasn't possible in Ireland. How wrong I was :D. I'm also quite interested in what will happen on Wednesday. If the tempreature is high enough here there should be some fireworks when that cold front arrives :) What are the chances of convection rainfall and thunderstorms on wednesday anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,145 ✭✭✭DonkeyStyle \o/

Humbug @ this hot weather... I'd love a few hours of hailstones.
    Roll on wintertime!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

as much as i like a good dumping of snow in the winter i much prefer these hot summer days, i think our summers are starting to get warmer, the last 3 summers including this one so far is warmer in general than the summers we used to get. nearly every week we get a day or two were the temperatures tops 21c and that used to be a rarity up till a few years ago. todays top temperature was almost 30c and tomorrow is meant be warmer again, I reckon one or two lucky places could get anything up to 31c or even 32c with most places getting up to 26c generally and 22c on coastal places like dublin.

I also read somewhere that in the south east of england at least that the bbc reckon that augusts 2003's record breaking temperature of 38.4c could be broken again this august, this summer is meant to be great lets hope it turns out to be true and so far its looking like this could well happen.

Rosslare station is within 100 meters of the sea- it was a good bit warmer than that about 15kn inland. I must say I had a great day fishing off Kilmore Quay, but I sweated off my sunblock and and am paying the price..
