    I wish i'd seen this before i went down. instead I had to be one of those COMPLETE MCD RIP OFF things

    Maybe Pete 'n' all can explain why their shareholders charge €10 for lineups. I was thinking about it when I saw the phantom tent - say MCD sold 20,000 of those lineups, that'd mean €200,000 - is that how much their piece of phantom cost them?

    In fairness, thats not really a matter for us! If you have a problem with the charge for the timetables, I would imagine your best bet is to take it up with MCD directly. I presume we should be explaining the price of ice creams and chips too? ;)

    Great fun down there though, and New Order topped it off very nicely for me I must say. Quality.

    While I agree with ya on that pete I am very disappointed with MCD.
    Their actions time and time again smack of exploitation. You think they'd have the decency to print the timetable online as we had already paid a hefty amount of money for the privilege of attending. Any other service (the theatre, transport, cinema etc) will gladly give you the times. Indeed, it's expected of them. I don't know how they get away with it. And now they have the gall to announce next years tickets at "this years prices". Sure they only raised them this year, and my scant knowledge of economics tells me inflation isn't that bad and they bloody well can't predict the prices of tickets for next summer! I guess dubshau was hoping you could explain 'cause you have a no-nonsense approach to these kind of things. But as you don't really represent them at all I wouldn't expect you to. Anyway festival rocked, I got my phantom tshirt and badge and met the delightful Mr Reed! (and james brown p*ssed all over new order and co :D get up offa that thing! uh!)

    Well in fairness that's not true. A theatre will give you the start time of a performance but if you want to know more about it you have to buy a programme. I suppose you could ask them to incorporate it into the price of the ticket but then you have to pay more. This way you can, in theory, buy one schedule between a number of people.

    I really don't agree with the pre-sale of tickets for next year. Fair enough you may decided now that you want to go next year and the chances are the price will indeed go up next year so you could save yourself a few quid. However Ticketmaster and MCD get to sit on that cash letting it earn interest for the best part of a year.

    Even if they only presell 20,000 tickets at €145 thats €2.9m they can stick in the bank for a year. So they're really doing themselves a favour.

    Firstly, MCD is not a shareholder in Phantom FM and what they do at their events and concerts is their own business.

    Secondly, I would like to see the stage times freely available in advance as any other event. There are varying views on these laminates that are essentially an event programme. I am not defending the company that sells them but if I go horseracing I have to buy a racecard, a soccer match a programme etc. etc. Other people see the lineup as a neat souvenir. I think the time has come for the schedule to be freely available inside and outside the venue along with the option of buying the laminate thingy.

    Just like Brian D says we can have the best of both worlds, just like in the days of witnness. It would cost them next to nothing to put it up on the website, they probably wouldnt even lose out on super normal profits earned by the dog tags - they'd still probably sell out. But the fact of the matter is that they had moderators on their message boards ensuring the timetables were not put up, they forbid radio djs to give the complete times and we turn up to find an abba tribute band headlining. figures. :rolleyes:

    But when this happens they move beyond just providing a service, to taking us for a ride. Im not anti-coporate, I know it's their business, but to me this is a scam. still I had a great time, the concert itself is just about value for money but unless something is done soon they're going to keep on pushing the envelope.

    You say MCD aren't shareholders in Phantom FM. Fair enough; but I thought Denis Desmond was the main man in MCD, and he seems to own a good chunk of Phantom.

    Did it cost him more then €200,000 which must have been what he made from the lineups?

    You are being, to put it mildly, sensationalist. Read the application made by phantom to the bci to get your facts straight. Yes MCD are within their rights to prevent the stations from broadcasting the timetable. It doesnt mean theyre right but neither does it mean that theyre going to make phantom their b1tch. in fact, they cant. they dont have that control over them. so stop with the drama.

    There's always stinky moaners! Firstly Mr. Desmond is a business man, and obviously a good one or else he wouldn't be able to put on such huge events, which I for one am glad of.

    And secondly, those pretty laminate thingys must have cost some money to make, and I suppose the people selling them would have wanted to be paid too. So I think you're going a bit over board about €200,000 being earned from them.

    If you don't like it, don't buy it. The timetable was on loads of message boards before the festival.
