V800 question

I've found that my V800 switches between 3G and GSM cells
and I am commuting in areas where 3G network seems to be
still flaky. Someone told me that I could choose an option
on the SE V800 to restrict it to using GSM network only.
I couldn't find that option in my Connectivity->Mobile Networks
menu. Someone helpful said that I should flash the SE V800
    with the latest firmware.

    Before I do this.

    a. How do I check the current firmware on the SE V800 ?
via google there seems to be a suggestion that the key sequence
*>*<<*< will bring up some firmware / software info status
summary on the phone. That sequence doesn't do anything
    on my phone.

    b. Has anyone else encountered this issue about needing
to update the firmware on the SE V800 ?
I've located the URL for the Sony update for V800 and installed
the USB flash drive driver for windows and so I am all set to
do a firmware update. I just want to make sure I am doing
    the right thing.

    Thanks

    Found the firmware info/service menu
I don't have the GSM preferred option.

What is your f/w version mine is

    R1S025

    Under Customization:

    CDA102295/14 R20A
    cxc125840 R1S025

I've read on esato.com archive that someone who has this
option has R30A on the second column under customization
rather than R20A. If you have R30A then I need to pickup
    new firmware from SonyEricsson.

    M1cro,

    thanks for the details.
It is the customization > R20 which seems to have addressed
the issue of selecting GSM networks and avoiding automatic
    switchover to 3G cells.
I might try the firmware upgrade over the weekend.

How do you find the phone. So far I find it is a gem.

LOL - I have a 1GB (CF) card but it is for my dSLR camera.
I am one of those folks who tires of games very easily.
Whats your favourite Java game for the V800 ?

I took a still from a TV show with the V800 cam the other
evening and I thought it captured it very nicely for a little
cam. What's your favourite theme for the v800 ?

I'd like an FM radio on it but sure I'm struggling to find
    fault with the phone.
