Installed slackware 7.1 the other day.. everything seems to be alright cept for one or two little things:

    1) slackware seems to be void of redhats **** easy sndconfig tool.. whats the procedure for making it see the soundcard?its some ensoniq/sbpci 128 or similar crap..

    2) Any way to have my cd writer seen as a normal cd drive? cos mount doesn't seem to like iso9660 in fstab..

If anybody has any clue about any of the above cheers smile.gif

You might want to try modprobe es1371 or maybe cd /lib/modules/2.2.16/
    ls misc
and insmod misc/es1370.o or insmod misc/1371.o and if one of those modules goes in then you might just want set /etc/rc.d/rc.modules to possibly modprobe for the right sound module on boot and for the cdrom you could be looking for something like insmod fs/isofs.o or sumthing?
    good luck
may the force be with you

    *blink*
    *shudder*
Gawd I keep forgetting how irritating linux can be...
anyway, little thing from memory (perhaps corrupt) generally the way to solve this is
to add somthing like "alias sound es1371" to /etc/modules.conf
Then the kernel know which module to use when you want to use the sound device and can load/unload the module as needed.

Its all much of a muchness really

    <edit> Or is it /etc/conf.modules ... *shrug* </edit>
