OK, messing around with settings today, and realised I hadn't enabled hardware sound, which I did, I've got a soundblaster live 5.1, basic but effective I would have thought.... Wrong, the sound went to hell in a handbasket, massive feedback, coming and going, and a constant buzzing in the background. So I had a look around a few forums to see if anyone else had the same problem, and I was pointed towards this in the 'read me' file:
We recommend Creative sound cards for use with Battlefield 2.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but i'd like to find out. Bit of a pain, they recommend the use of creative sound cards but then list a load of them that aren't supported. EA/Creative's way of making me upgrade I suppose...
I'm leaning towrds this card: http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=5484&type=6&path=14x122x572

Anyone have one or have any other suggestions?

Turn off EAX and use hardware or software , both should be fine.

I use Built in 5.1 jobbies after 4 now and previous Creative exp i swear by the VIA/CMI codecs.

For those of you capable of running with hardware sound on creative cards what drivers are you lot using?
Ive a sb live 24 bit 7.1 that I paid something like 60 euros for 6 or so months ago whic works in every game I play with eax and hardware and wont run in hardware mode in bf2.
Any ideas--all I want is 5.1 sound which I cant seem to get in software mode.
