Eldar Tactics: For/Against

Just like to hear some ideas from people on past battles with eldar, and how to use them well or on how to defeat them.

To start the ball rolling,
Using a guardian storm squad, with a warlock with the conceal power as a screen for foot assault troops.

i really wanna know how to beat eldar as at every gaelcon ive been at they dominated . 3 out of 4 were in semis last time i went

Really, it comes down to what army you play with. I never found Eldar a problem when I played with blood angels, they had nothing to deal with the death company except for howling banshees. Eldar units are very very specialised. Striking scorpions are excellent against imperial guard for instance, but are not very good against space marines or chaos, since they can't automatically penetrate their armour.

Remember also that Eldar are very fragile for their points cost. Heavy bolters, assault cannons and the like can rip apart guardian units and the lighter armoured units of aspect warriors. While for any tournament army, you would have some heavier weapons for dealing with space marines and these are useful against their heavier troops.

If you tell me the army that you use i can give you something more specific, e.g. mobility etc

i use chaos and eldar always seem to have enough strength 5 weapons ap3 with well enough shots to go rond for my army

Vary your troop types, all those S5 weapons are only a problem if you don't screen your troops and don't have other threats.

e.g. a land raider is excellent for drawing fire off your tactical squads, use only to charge up the centre or flank and discharge a terminator assault squad on some vulnerable troops. Their tanks, i.e. falcons are very fragile, invest in a devestator squad and shield them with a tactical squad, don't waste any points on guns other than lascannons and missile launchers, that way you won't be tempted to waste shots on anything other than tanks, or wraithlords.

Get into hand to hand with the missile troops causing you problems, use an assault squad or a bike squad. This will disrupt their line as they have to support the squad thats been assaulted or leave a powerful assault squad behind their lines. Also folow up the squad with a rhino with a tactical squad. Get them within 12" and 20 ish bolter shots at 3+ to hit against eldar is deadly, take a multi-melta along and you can dissolve (hehe) any tougher threats.

Dreadnoughts are excellent line breakers, and armed with assault cannons are deadly against eldar. Predators can cause problems aswell so take one or two.

Remember though that regardless of the force you have, the eldar will be faster, and will outnumber you. Deploy so that your units are either in cover and supported. Think about transporting tactical squads with close ranged hvy weapons in rhinos and redploying them as to disrupt and assaults.

Hmm.. total waffle, but you might get something useful out of reading it. Last tip, get into close combat with a demon or two
