Yes, that's right, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has nothing better to do.

    Edited: merged.

isn't the issue in the states that the game has an R rating (17+) and that this content should make it higher?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

if it gets the higher rating a lot of shops will stop stocking it, TRU, kmart and a few other large retailers dont stock adult only games

Well I haven't seen how explicit it is in GTA, but isn't there something very similar in God of War?

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,301 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

While the game is rated M, and therefore not readily sold to those below the age of 17...
The is priceless! We all know that mummy and daddy already buys it for their kids, and then blame the game when their "innocent" kid mows down the locals with whatever weaponary they can get his hands on!

    Hillary's getting all excited

Clinton wades into GTA sex storm

The PC version of GTA has an 18 rating in the UK
Senator Hillary Clinton has stepped into the controversy over sex scenes in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The senator wants the US Federal Trade Commission to find out who put the explicit material in the game.

The US Entertainment Software Rating Board is already investigating GTA maker Rockstar over the matter.

Rockstar has denied that it included the graphic content in San Andreas and has instead accused hackers of altering the code.

    Test case

The controversy about the Hot Coffee mod broke earlier this week with the ESRB's announcement of its investigation.

The board wants to find out if Rockstar broke rules that demand it tell industry regulations if such material is included in games.

There is no doubting the fact that the widespread availability of sexually explicit and graphically violent video games makes the challenge of parenting much harder
    Senator Hilary Clinton
The downloadable mod was put together by Dutch GTA fan Patrick Wildenborg and is said to unlock mini-games in the recently-released PC version of San Andreas that lets players make game characters have sex.

The ESRB wants to work out if the sexual content was in the game all along but hidden or if the mod adds it.

For its part Rockstar said that the Hot Coffee mod only works because hackers took apart, rebuilt and then recompiled the game's underlying computer code.

Hardly any need to start a new thread about it, is there?

Just hought it was interesting the level that GTA gets to. Thats all. In fairness threads have been started for a lot less. If ya don't find it interesting why are you here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 55,516 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

To bitch at you for starting a new GTA thread!

hes not knocking your ability to start a new thread, just that there is a thread already in progress about the same topic, and hilary was mentioned there already.

You may be joking, but since the amount of requests I’ve had for permission to post stuff I’ll rephrase to make things clear - do not post, or link to, any recorded medium of the mod (Hot Coffee). Also, do not link to the mod.

    This is boards.ie, not porn.ie, or butIdonotthinkitisporn.ie.

So FS Discs outta question too.

Sadly this "mod" could spell the end of modding on anything less than moderated games. Eurogamer has a decent artilce about it, but in honestly modding has gone a bit too far not just the above but for main games releases. 197 mods for Hl2 etc:

as proven over the last 10 years a game lives or dies by its community, and if you dont give that community a voice (ie the abiity to mod) then that game dies.

i doubt this will have any serious repurcussions other than rockstar getting a slap on the wrist for leaving the unfinished code in the game without telling ESRB.

again the problem isnt with rockstar or the guy who made the code to unlock hot coffe. the problem is with parents who are too lazy to do their jobs; they let the entertainment industry do the work for them, then when they see something they dont like they kick up a fuss cos they have nothing better to do.

Looks like its not the mod that unlocks it. It has been found in the PS2 version, and can be unlocked with a gameshark or action replay.

From what I've heard, its pretty bloody tame, but thats not going to stop US politicians from jumping all over this......

According to its creators, the Hot Coffee mod merely unlocks hidden, preexisting code inside San Andreas. The game's publisher, Rockstar Games, appeared to vehemently--but carefully--deny that charge in a statement earlier this week. "So far we have learned that the 'Hot Coffee' modification is the work of a determined group of hackers who have gone to significant trouble to alter scenes in the official version of the game," the company said. "In violation of the software user agreement, hackers created the 'Hot Coffee' modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game's source code."

Rockstar's statement also claimed that the mod was the product of complex technical tampering. "Since the 'Hot Coffee' scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse-engineering of the game's source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code and prevent the game from being altered by the 'Hot Coffee' modification," read the statement.

What complete and utter bollix any fool would know that adding in 1 script would not alter an ingame scene and add instructions and Up and downisms to the mod.

Rockstar doing a damn fine job of killing mods.

Saw this a while ago on gtaforums.com, it looks pretty innocous to me and it's not something I'd be bothered by but I think it's setting a bad precedent. There could be people out there who would decide they're ok with the computerised violence but they may be opposed to the simulated sex scenes but not realise that it's being included on their discs. Even though it is locked out, I think people should be fully informed of what is on the disc they're buying so they can make an informed choice.

 some irish people are getting worse by the day
