How to register to pay tax?

    Hi all,

    Im currently employed but i wish to start working for myself, How do i register to pay tax and what steps do i need to take to get started.
    And what is the difference between starting a company and just being registered to pay tax. All help appreciated. Thanks.

    You need to fill out form TR1 at your local tax office to register for tax.

    You will need to also register for VAT if your extra income is likely to be over €28,000.

    You can download the form from the Revenue web site. It also covers VAT.

    Also look into registering online for VAT and tax returns on www.ros.ie.

    Company formation is more complex and may not be what you need to do.
    Check out www.basis.ie
