Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Your opinion wanted on two exciting proposals

What is your opinion on the proposals?

I chose Proposal 1 because I dont like the current format and Proposal 2 seems unworkable to me.

    Proposal 2
I voted for proposal 1. Seems the most workable. It sounds a little bit like something I suggested a while back in this thread with a few minor details changed around: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=260978

Proposal 2 sounds pretty stupid, in my opinion. It doesn't seem to be taking possible changes in weather conditions into account whatsoever. For example, what happens if it starts raining towards the end of qualifying? It'll mean that the ten drivers left for the last 30 minutes will end up further up the grid anyhow, despite the fact that they'll have probably ended up setting a slower lap time due to the weather conditions, and the drivers which were eliminated earlier when it was dry and set fastest times will still be further back. It wouldn't be a true reflection of who was the fastest driver in qualifying and, in my opinion, that's what qualifying should be about, determining who is the fastest driver of the lot.

I mean, it would look kind of weird to see a TV caption showing the pole position driver clinched pole with a lap of, say, 1min. 30secs. (which he set in the rain in the last 30 minutes) whereas the 20th placed driver ended up setting a lap time (in the dry earlier in the session) of 1min. 15secs. but still ended up last on the grid. Anyone who was tuning in just before a race but who hadn't seen qualifying and saw that caption on their screen would be totally confused as to how that happened! And let's face it, the sport is probably hard enough to follow for newcomers as it is without baffling them even further with a qualifying system like that........ not to mention the Americans! :D

    Proposal 2
I used to love to see drivers trying to find a spot where there was no traffic to get a good lap . Senna was a master of this . I went for proposal one .

Proposal two is unworkable in my eyes .

    Ditto

It just shows you how low the FIA have gone now that they have absolutely no confidence in themselves to come up with a decent qualifiying proposal.

Here's one for ya Mr. Mosely....... 1 hour session with 12 laps maximum. It's not rocket science to work out this is the way to go as it's simple, exciting and already kinda worked for quite a few years to great effect until you clowns decided to screw up F1.

    Both are pretty lame imo.

I'm sick of all this ****e, it's obvious that in a few years they'll just go back to the old 1hr/12 way. Which was great imo.

And I'm getting sick of pitstops too, I'd like to see them being forced to overtake as opposed to perfect their pit strategy; this would appeal a lot more to the yanky-dollar too:)

    Nail. Hammer. Head.

Given the options I voted for proposal 1, but now I don't even watch qualifying, quite simply it bores the feck outta me! To think i used to be glued to empty screens for 40 minutes dying in anticipation for the frantic finale, and now... meh.

I too would like a return to the old format.
I've completely lost all interest in both qualifying and race day, the rules and regulations introduced over the past number of years have made it unwatchable for me, a seasoned fan of 15+ years.

Proposal 1 seems best. It'd be like the old format except without the half an hour dead time at the start which was the whole point of why they changed in the first place wasn't it. Not sure about unlimited laps. If it's still single tyre(and I hope it isn't) then that would be ok cos they'd limited their runs to save tyres, but theres a danger of slower teams just using it as a practice session and there being constant traffic. I'd still prefer the old format. Or maybe 2 X 30 mins with 12 laps to spend between them but u must set a time in both.

    Current Format
there are faults with both, but i chose proposal 2 beacuse the aggregate in proposal one would enable the possibility of the "fastest" man not getting pole position, which in my opinion defeats the purpose and what i thought was the idea behind qualifying.
