Building in winter?

Just had a meeting with the senior planning officer and it seems after 13 months trying we're going to get planning permission, just have to sort out another percolation test and we're good to apply. It seems like with the 8 weeks for planning to come through and the 1 month wait the earliest we'll be able to start our build will be begining of November. Going with timber frame so would hope to get the site sorted, foundation in and the structure weather tight fairly quickly.

Any problems with starting a house build in the winter? What are the pitfalls?

    Thanks.

Our winters are mild so you'll be grand - I started my house in November and it's 100% so far. The thing you will have is the rain delaying the work

We started late November last year, no problems. Obviously more scope for weather delays, but sure it can píss down in this country any time of the year. We went with builder, so maybe more problems if going direct labour - our builder had it very well organised between different trades. This may not be as easy direct labour if there are weather delays...
