As I'm in Canada at the moment, I have the US/Canadian version of this book and I'm not sure if it's identical to the European one or not.

Also, I thought that this deserved it's own thread :)

Between pages 320 and 321, the chapter: A Very Frosty Christmas
If you stretch apart the 2 halves of the book from each other slightly, you'll notice some writing going up the page, near the top of page 321

    It says:
    Believe-Children Can.---11 Of 19

That's an exact duplication of it, including the punctuation marks.
Has anyone seen this before or know what it means??

    I've just had a thought:

"Can." - instead of being "can" with a full stop.
It could be an abbreviation of "Canada" or "Canadian" ... as in, edition.

    Hmmm

Very strange! No there's nothing in my book.

Seeing as its 11 of 19, have you checked the book for others??

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

Yeah I have, but not very hard - I'll have another look.

Haven't got a fecking clue as to what it could be!

"Children" is probably referring to the kind of book it is. I'd say it's just some sort of publisher's mark.

The Canadian publishers used post-consumer recycled paper for their print run so that's probably what caused this. Link

Books are usually produced by printing the pages on a large sheet, which is then folded several times to make a "gathering"; typically you'll get 16 or 32 pages per gathering, and several gatherings are stitched or glued together to make the book.

The new book has 608 pages in the Canadian edition; 608 / 19 = 32. So, you have found the 11th gathering of 19. You will probably find similar marks if you jump forward and back 32 pages at a time.

    + and - 32 pages ... nothing :)

    Next?? :p
