LDAP Lookups

    Lo there,

(origionally posted in the tech boards, but I dont think their tech enough smile.gif )

Hope you guys might be able to help me with this one. In an effort to chuck out M$ Exchange from my company, I intend putting in MDaemon in. Now, heres the thing, I have to emulate what Exchange does for me to replace it successfully.

One of the major things is a public address book. Now, Mdaemon has a feature to update an LDAP server (also from mdeamon) and I have that side of it working perfectly. And M$ Outlook also a feature to look up an LDAP Server. The plot thickens when I use M$ Outlook to get a list of the contacts.

OutLook connects the server. It doesnt display a list of contacts straight off. But if you go into Find and hit a blank search, it actually brings back a full list from the LDAP server. Whilst this is cool, the staff in here are thick and are expecting to get the list straight off. (instead of them having to hit find and do a blank search, if you get me?)

    Questions -
Is there any commands in an LDAP server which automaticly return a full query on opening ?
Has anyone else done similar and encountered this problem?
    Is this a known problem?

Any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Eric

What version of Mdaemon you using Eric? 4.x fixes that problem. I had something like this before with version 3.8.1, which I fixed with an upgrade.

Im running mdeamon 4.5. I dont think its an mDeamon problem. Your running the mdaemon Ldap beta server ?

I've got 4.0.5 running at home, and we're currently running 3.8.1 mainstream, with 4.0.5 about to come online. Still got a few glitches (all the filter rule files are shagged) smile.gif.

Anyway, it sounds like an issue with Outlook. Try Eudora and see what happens...

Is the machine connecting to the server using the latest version of Outlook, on Win2K? Microsoft only really got into LDAP with Windows 2000, so older versions of Outlook and older MS OSs might have a problem there.

    Ta Jaden,

You see, the client workstation is w2k (sp2) using office pro 2000. Have you actually got this working so it brings up the address list automaticly ?

    Hello Eric,

There is not an option to automatically show all contacts in the mail clients. You will need to perform a search on all mail clients in
order to show the contacts. Sorry, there is no easy way to do this.

So... how did you get this working ?
