Trade it in for a new Mondeo and expect to get about €12k - €13k off the list price

I would make a guess at around €10k depending on what you are trading it in against.

I think around €10k is more realistic though. :)

I saw a 01 1.8 Zetec selling for €9,850 at a dealers recently so the person who traded it hardly got more than €9k for it in part exchange.

Bee, most of these prices on carzone are from dealers who are asking for these prices. These are not trade-in prices and as I stated I have seen a 01 Zetec model which has the more powerful 1.8 engine and of higher spec than the LX model going for €9,850. Don't know what mileage was on it but it was in good condition.

Also I know someone who traded a 02 Zetec turbo diesel a couple of months ago in for a brand new model and only got €16k for it. That only had 69k on the clock and one owner from new.

As I said it was a guess but by all means don't take my word for it, the only way to find out is go into a dealer and see how much he will give her for it against another car. I very much hope that I am wrong and she gets alot more for it.

And if it was my money and car I would make sure I went to more than one dealer to make sure that one of them wasn't trying to pull a fast one.

the car is worth 11.5-12k against LIST price, the reason i say this is they will sell it for that easily as cars under 30k are very sought after. there is a big difference bazz between a car that has 23k and 69k, one is shagged and the other is not...anyway when they sell it for 12, the list price enabels them to make an extra 1.5k profit on the sale due to the cash discount that would otherwise have been offered. i personally doubt u will get any more than 12 as a mondeo petrol isnt a particularly sought after machine. but 12 is a fair price in my opinion.

Pretty much my reasoning too. List new €25k so cash price about €23.5k from a cash buyer. If they give you €12.5k trade in they'll get €12.5k cash from you

Say they sell for €12k that would bring the take to €24.5k, or put differently: about €1k for the trouble of having to sell a second hand car that will be easy enough to sell

Lomb, you may very well be close with your valuation of the car but 69k on a car does not automatically mean it is shagged, it just means it was used. And in the case of the one I mentioned it was 69k on a 3 year old turbo diesel which in my opinion only just broken in. Low mileage cars sometimes are not the great buy that some people think they are. They can be only used for small trips around town, etc, this is where most of the ware and tear is done to an engine when it is only warming up. Also some (I say some not all) low mileage cars are not properly maintained as the owner thinks that because they don't use that much so it doesn't need regular maintenance.

Anyway back to the subject at hand.

Bee I would be very interested to know the outcome of this, what is she looking at trading the Mondeo in for? Might be worth trying to sell it privately. Let us know how she gets on.

While that Mondeo has low mileage, you can buy them privately from around €7-8K. You will not get more than that if you trade it in.

Of course you can get more when trading in for new against list price compared to selling privately as we've outlined above

Why do you think you would only get €7-8K?

An update..two best offers so far are after a bit of a haggle are €13,500 and €14,000 and being a cash buyer is obviously a good thing

Thanks for the repllies but judging by some of them it appears some folk can be easily parted with their money!

€13.5k - €14k. Well done. I gather you specified a few optional extras?

So do I get a price for coming closest? ;)

hahaha he must be buying something with a crazy cash discount to get that tbh, like another mondeo maybe ;)
