Gandalf, what ever about merc's soap box, I think he does raise some valid points about the content of that forum. Maybe it's just cause it new, maybe not, but better to start as you mean to go on. Can't "adults" discuss these things without it being totally in the gutter?

I nearly posted earlier that this would be a fairly dense way to try to make money, but subscriptions have started coming in at a barmy rate today so I would have been proved wrong. I haven't looked at the forum myself (I will in a few days to see what sort of stuff is being discussed), but I can't imagine the content is going to be terribly interesting. Then again I sometimes wonder if the attraction of boards for some people is a sort of voyeurism into other people's lives that you won't normally get from regular social interaction.

I don't know, I doubt I'd pay money just to access it, but then again you never know.

it will calm down once the novelty value has worn off. Then there might be some more serious and thoughtful discussion. TBH, i see no reason why it can't be fun and crass as well.

The idea of discussion forum for computer nerds to discuss sex and sexuality seems like the worlds greatest paradox to me.

I was about to comment on that. Since Draupnir is a regular user here on boards I can only assume that post is a reflection on his own life :(

Well it should make boards beers a little more interesting... "So, D4rkL0rd, what'd you do about those crabs in the end?"
Considering how many people from boards know eachother in person, I can't see it being all that frank and open anyway.

From a quick look at the forum, there seems to be a lot of excited posts by excited posters, eager to talk freely about sex.
There's a lot of potential for the forum, and I can see it being one I'd read from time to time and probably post in. At the moment, there's a fair amount of crap in it too, though. I'd say it just needs to settle down and get all the minor topics out of the way first. "How often do you like it?" isn't really a discussion IMO, but I'd imagine things could get much deeper in there once some of the more hardcore posters get started.

    Pun most certainly intended.

Im indifferent to the new forum. as a subscriber I have access to it and because people wanted it, then that is good enough for me

My only issue arising out of this thread is the decision to no longer accept bank transfers for subscriptions. Payments through bank transfer, if done properly could be verifyable.

When I made my payment in January I was able to attach a label with my username to it. If there was an account with the sole purpose of taking in money for subscriptions then thsi could work.

Having an automatic standing order set up between my own account and boards.ie's account is convenient. I dont relish the idea of giving my Credit Card details to a third party (paypal)

just a quick question, how much for a sub? and how long does it last? i think i heard 5 euro being bounced around, and to be honest, i'd pay the 5 euro even if it didnt have any extra benifits. boards.ie provides a great service for free. why are those users with thousands of posts complaining about having to cough up a few quid?? i'm sure the "bargain alerts" or the "for sale" thread has saved you a lot more than a fiver over the years!

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,958 ✭✭✭✭RuggieBear

    indeed.

Subs are 50 for a year. 13 for 3 months and 5 for a month

nice one ruggiebear, might give it a lash for a month to see how it goes!

Considering how many people from boards know eachother in person, I can't see it being all that frank and open anyway.
I think that is going to be a big influence on the way the forum ends up running, especially given the subscriber + mod thing reducing the anonymity (though we have mechanisms for semi-anonymous posting they depend on people trusting the mods - and while two people who have worked on sexuality issues and one who has worked in Ann Summers are therefore people with some history of knowing how to keep their mouths shut, that alas won't necesarily come across online).

It is going to be talking about these matters with your mates from boards.ie, less free than if you were more anonymous, but there's still the same good side to sharing stuff with this community that we are part of that exists on all the other forums.

That's going to be the big difference between posting there and on any of the other more specialised boards elsewhere on the web (not that usernames from here are never found elsewhere, but as I said, I know how to keep my mouth shut).

Can I get a refund for my time wasted reading this moany bitchy thread?
    please?

    I adapted some Lethal Weapon 2 just to be helpful;
this does not reflect my opinion on subscriptions, it just fits with the tone ;)

To use a film quote: "I get me share" :)

Nah, I was joking around in fairness, I would consider myself a pretty nerdy chap anyway!

to be honest, the forum is about as interesting as the house of lusty ladies forum.

id rather have sex than read other peoples overdramatised opinions on the matter tbh.

    Madness.

I wouldn't recommend subscribing just for the sake of that forum, and as mod I should be biased in its favour.

I'd like to think that the whole thing has merely reminded people who meant to get around to subscribing (I know it did in one case, because the person in question was a mod and has access anyway) but alas it seems some people really are just subscribing for the sake of this forum. How bloody good do they think it can be?

I just don't want them blaming me if they're disappointed :(

Who'd subscribe just so they can see a forum that tells you how to suck cock properly? That's ****ing pathetic!

couldn't agree more with that one,
only suscribe if you're looking for the warm, fuzzy feeling of helping boards out, not because of one little forum

that would be me you are mentioning I am guessing?
yes you are right, I already had access and it was excatly as you stated that it reminded me I hadnt subscribed as I had inteneded to many times before, so I finally got my card out and dished out the well earned funds ;)
I have been meaning to ever since last years novemebr beers when I gave my 50.00 to the SSF (pam's charity drag-event hehehe) instead of boards,
its money well spent either way ;)

Maybe you should subscribe and tell us all how it's done... ;)

I reckon everyone who has subscribed in the last 24hours or so should get horny...but ultimately unsatisfied stars under their handles.
