Mercedes E class (the square headlight one W12-whatever)

That'll be the w124 which along with the w201 (23 years old now) have held up surprisingly well.

The original BMW 6 Series (E24) still looks well with it's shark style nose, definately better looking than the current Bangle design.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Jeez I would have said the exact opposite. The Audi looked dated when it was launched - bland and insipid.

The Multipla is attractively ugly, and I reckon will be the only classic MPV!
If I were to be a victim of my own virility, it would be my only choice

Agree although I would never use attractive and Multipla in the same sentence ;)

The original Nissan Primera (introduced in late 1990) still looks decent to me and better than its modern equivalent. Also, if you could buy a brand new one today I feel that it would not disgrace itself if tested against modern competitors

Will we settle for half-decent in the looks department? :)

Remarkably good drivers car compared to others in its class and I agree it would still hold its own compared to more modern family size cars. Unfortunately it was built in the UK which is not a good thing

As for BMWs - none bar the current generation look modern, because the current genaration looks so, eh, modern :(

That's actually a Mk II - I agree though - particularly in GTI form.

That's grand, I wasn't imaginging it, but they do look very good in GTI form.

I agree about the SL, but particularly the earlier ones, I prefer some of the differences in detail.

There seems to be a lot of references to BMWs so i may as well chip in...
BMW E30 M3 Sport Evo, E24 M6 & 8 series all still look great. I think the E34 5 series also still looks good!
As for other cars, the ones that stick out in my mind are:-
    Mini (original)
    Pug 205
    Mclaren F1
...and Im sure there are others but some of us here must do some work!!!

Usually I find that its cars that have been released into production that have been designed alongside ones tuned up for rallying...

    Ford Escort RS Cosworth
    Cosworth

    Lancia Delta Integrale

    Audi Quattro

    Quattro

Actually, I saw an Escort RS Cosworth for sale yesterday just off the Walkinstown Roundabout, 1994 for 25,950

    '94 Celica GT-Four : No coincidence that it's mine

The '96 comes with sports ABS, PS, EW, EM and air-con. It puts out 255bhp and does 0-60 in 5.6 in standard spec, but is relatively easy to modify to 400bhp and simple to get about 315bhp out of. You could sell that as a new car today and I'd buy it.

Agreed on that. VW never got the credit they deserved for this design.

I still start to dribble whenever I see one on the road.

Have to disagree there, when you see the new ones, they really make the previous version look seriously dated

the new one doesnt look that great in my opinion, sure its a nice car but it lacks classic merc proportions, anyway unless u have 145 grand in loose change forget the new one for the next 12 years, the old one is an option for anyone from a boy racer to a civil servant.

911s in general still look great. they have evolved nicely. particularly the 993.......mmmmmm :)

very true, old porsches are nicer than the new ones, the cayenne is a rotten joke as is the new panemera. its a shame about the handling of old porsches though.

It's unfortunate that loads of them have terrible build quality

umm well, they not as bad as people think tbh. Head gasket is weak in them, thats pretty much all to be honest. But by god are they a powerful car for their class, well the Rover 400. Deadly nippy and fast. Twincam in them as standard.
Basically the only thing thats bad is the head gasket, besides that they are an excellent car. Both looks and performance. Totally underrated, but I don't mind as they're a unique car on the road :)
