In light of the worst thread. Why are people so negative?

I always liked the Practice opening credits but I think other just think it was strange.
    McGuyver was excellent.
    ER still stands out
    Six Feet Under
    Freeks And Geeks (Bad Reputation)
@lastTV (Irish Show from the Late 90's)
    Millennium
    Profiler
    Water Rats
    CSI (all franchises)
Law And Order (Old and New)

not too fond of the new Law & Order ones, not the same without the classic music

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 432 ✭✭Daelus

    My favourites are:

    'Six Feet Under'
    'Angel'
    'Freaks and Geeks'

I really like the 'Firefly' theme tune and opening credits, too.

    Enterprise!!

    (Joke!)

Stargate Atlantis (before they shrinkwrapped it).
Point Pleasant (nice Danny Elfman music, cool animated ravens). RIP!
The 4400 (Nice tune - "A Place In Time" by Amanda Abizad, great imagery)
Scrubs ("Superman" by Lazlo Bane - great song, clever intro).

Some great oldies (probably don't even need mentioning) are Magnum PI, Airwolf, MacGyver, Knightrider...

I'll probably think of more later! :)

    buffy and angel are great.

I always loved the Trigger Happy TV intro, especially the song. Which I have since downloaded.

THE EQUALIZER Okay not a great series really but I love the opening sequence as it climaxes with the man himself backlit in the dark.

    Family Guy's take on Law&Order
All CSI's- The Who are brilliant
    Desperate Housewives
    Animaniacs

A few more - The Professionals, The Sweeney, (classic) Dr Who, Thunderbirds and the daddy of opening title sequences - The Prisoner

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

oh... I have to go with The Prisoner... amazing stuff altogether.

More recently I like the Dead Like Me intro.

oh and I like the fact that Lost doesn't really have one at all.

Some of the Babylon 5 ones were great, I loved the way they updated the voice over and the music with each season.

"The Babylon project was our last best hope for peace.... It failed!"

Don't watch the show but Boston Public has pretty good intro titles if I remember correctly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

CHiPS..... That funk/classical/synth/disco theme is a standout classic... sooo late 70's. :D

    The Prisoner.

And the BBC News 24 countdown at the top of the hour...

I also like the opening sequence to 'Batman: The Animated Series'. Batman just looks so cool in it. :p

Carnivale has a great title sequence imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

yes carnivale has a great one, going in and out of the tarot cards. deadwood is also very well done with the horse running through the woods etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,036 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    - Carnivale (love the instrumental tune running through it... a bit long at approx. 1 and a half minutes long)
    - Scrubs (smart and short little intro... also love the Lazlo Bane song. But Scrubs always has fantastic music!)
    - Freaks And Geeks (mentioned already but Joan Jett's 'Bad Reputation' playing over the gang getting their school photos taken is a classic!)
    - Lost (a short intro of the word 'LOST' with a 'WEEOOWWWWWEHHHHH' noise.. suits a show like 'Lost' as a clever little jingle or pop tune just wouldn't have suited it)
    - Veronica Mars (clever upbeat intro and love the Dandy Warhol's song over it....)
    - Spaced (i just loved the idea that they had no real intro... just the words 'Spaced' written / placed on screen every week in an unusual / not so unusual way)
    - Phoenix Nights (bing..a...bing..bing..bing.. - classic Xylophone action!)

Will probably think of more later!

The Sopranos - Alabama 3's basstastic choon just makes you sink into the sofa in anticipation.

Moonlighting - like Roquefort, classic cheese and you're not quite sure if you should pick the mouldy bits out or scoff them down.

South Park - intensely irritating, yet in a curiously pleasant way.

Brass Eye - can you say "drama", "suspense", "twisted brain-wrong of a one-off man-mental"?

Trailer Park Boys - intoxicatingly lullaby-like, in stark contrast to the gritty quality of the show itself.

The opening credit for the first season of Murder One (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112086/) always stood out for me and The 10th Kingdom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0207275/)...

Always enjoyed the Animanicas song too...

More recently, gotta agree with Carnivàle.

The new Law & Order one *shrug* I like the look enough but I don't like the new music at all, it's not real Law & Order without it!

tbh the fact that Lost doesn't have a real title sequence annoys me... but oh well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Forgot Newsnight best news opening sequence
then Channel 4 News (Don't like the new green and pink headlines and set)
Nuacht TG4 had a great open sequence up to resently I thought it would become a classic, it had a great kind of trad theme in the back ground (I know how Oirish of them, but still very cool)
tbh the fact that Lost doesn't have a real title sequence annoys me

Yeah I miss an opening sequence, but I like the short LOST sequence, the end credit music is cool.

Is it just me or does anyone else have to watch the opening credits to their fav programmes.

Remington Steel had cool opening credits. (Not on the first season)

best theme tune and intro has to be The Persuaders... starred roger moore and tony curtis. fanatastic sig tune

Also worth mentioning (which hasn't been mentioned so far, as far as i know!) is the fantastic intro sequence and music to 'The X-Files'

Got the complete series on DVD recently and watching it again made me realise how much that theme tune gives me shivers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,115 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Porridge - no theme tune just the same ominous judgement every week and the clanging of cell doors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭djmarkus

I know im gonna get strong opposition to this but:

    The simpons(esp. the sofa scenes)

Edit: I’m also going to take this opportunity to say that the family guy theme tune irritates me, though the show is class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,036 ✭✭✭✭Basq

No opposition here.. fantastic opening sequence!

Different messages on the blackboard / sofa scenes make the intro even better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,714 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

oh and I like the fact that Lost doesn't really have one at all.

Agreed. They just cut to the chase.

    Other good intros:
Quantum Leap (the narrator feels real sympathy for Sam and the music is class)
Star Trek Next Generation (Patrick Stewart nails the intro)
Magnum PI (Tom Selleck and his eyebrows. It's eightiestastic.)

Dead Like Me! Purely because it doesn't feature any footage of the show, don't give any images of the stars* and bears almost no connection to the show itself. ie it isn't trying 'explan' or 'sell' the show. It's just there!

It's as tho the guy who was commisioned to do it was asleep when the concept was discussed in the production meeting and had nothing other than the words 'Grim Reaper' and 'Dead Like Me' to go on. Plus the theme by Stewart Copeland that accompany's it is just perfect.

I hate those cheessy 'Dallas' style portait parades where you get and endless cascade of mugshots of Hollywoods latest emetic of grinning idiots set to some stupid piece of upbeat optimistic music. As such DLM is the perfect contract.

*=except for about 1/2 a second of George in the last shot.

Very good but the best ever has to be:

The A-Team (Seasons 1-3, they messed it up in season 4)

"In 1972 a crack commando unit..."
Great intro music and it had Face Man looking at a Cylon as if he recognised it from being Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica.

I think that the show I love hearing every time it starts is Will & Grace. I love the music to it.

I think Futurama is THE BEST intro sequence ever. It's just so fast that you still don't remember everything that's happening even after watching it so many times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭cashback

Cheers - Gives me a warm nostalgic feeling whenever I hear it.
"Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot."

Cagney and Lacey too. Heard on the current Kelloggs ad with William Shatner.

The opening for the pilot episode of Buck rogers in the 25th century is sheer class!

Then again the regular opening is pretty good too!

    A few more classics:

M*A*S*H - helicopters coming in over the mountains and classic music

The Dukes of Hazzard - you just know the film isn't going to be as good

Hawaii-Five-O - showing my age a bit now, but one of the all time great theme tunes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,473 ✭✭✭R0ot

    Red Dwarf
    A-Team
    Babylon 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,306 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

    JAG
    NCIS
    A-Team
    Megas XLR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,437 ✭✭✭weemcd

im shocked how few people have mentioned the a-team
    Samurai Jack
    Angel
Dark Angel if i remember it correctly

My favourite has to go to "borat's television program" tho.

Twas indeed, he's carved out a decent career in TV and film music plus a bit of opera.

    Mike.

Don't forget the pre-1999 Late Late sig tune - even if it wasn't original it's still a classic. Still get the odd shiver when I hear the deep booms :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

another one which is memorable is Baywatch.

did Hasselhoff actually sing on it?

    also
    McGuyver
    Knight Rider
    The A-Team
Law & Order (not the new crappy one)
24 (i like the lack of music and the fact it is really short and pretty much goes straight into it)
The Sunday Game (not the newest one)
    MOTD
    Wonder Woman
The Shield (i like the way it just bursts into the music about 7 minutes into the show)
would the theme music from Scarface count :D pure class all the way

Got to include Red Dwarf (the closing theme and the intro for the first two series - great!

And you can't forget the theme tune from the 1960's Batman! :D

Was always partial to the Alias intro theme, but the one that always used to get me the most (when I was a wee lad) were the intro to Ulysees and especially the Mysterious Cities of Gold.
