Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I freakin' love the Match Of the Day theme tune. Gets me all fired up (for the football, of course).
Can't believe no-one's mentioned the "Sons and Daughters" theme! Now there was a tune and half.

What about Tales of the Unexpected? One word - macabre... (I think that's how you spell it)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭The_g-man

Tales from the Crypt, and the 1st series of Monk. BTW, Sammy Hagar sang the Baywatch theme.

I liked the theme tune on The Crystal Maze.

Most of the aforementioned are great, some of my own favourites being:

The A-Team (saw it again for the first time in a few years over the weekend. Looks pretty cheesey nowadays but that theme tune can still get you all fired up. I pity da fool that don't like The A-Team! :D )

    Airwolf

    McGyver

The Fall Guy (the theme tune, 'The Unknown Stuntman' sung by the star of the show, Lee Majors, himself is just brilliant. All together now..... "Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, but I've been seen with Farrah....."! :D )

Dempsey & Makepiece (Harriet Makepiece...... yum, yum! ;):D )

Transformers ("more than meets the eye"!)

Knight Rider ("a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist"!)

Blue Thunder (great opening shot of the helicopter flying ominously towards the camera, silhouetted by the rising sun)

Red Dwarf (both the opening rocking guitar theme tune and the closing tune. "It's cold outside, there's no kind of atmosphere....." :D )

Match Of The Day ("Da da da da de de de da da, da da da de de da! :D )

One of my serious all-time favourites, though, and which I can't believe no-one else seems to have mentioned yet is the old BBC 'Grand Prix' theme tune. That low, bass guitar leading into the drums and then into the rocking electric guitar bit from Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain'. It's like the musical equivilant of the start of a Grand Prix race itself. Starts out all quiet, just that low, bass guitar humming away (the drivers sitting in their cars, psyching themselves up and getting ready for the race), then the drums start coming in, quietly at first then getting louder and louder (the engines are started, the revs start to rise, getting louder and louder) and then the electric guitar comes screaming in over the drums and all hell breaks loose (the lights go out and the race is GO, GO, GO! :D ) I think it's a testament to how effective a theme tune it is that it's a piece of music that's now more well known and associated as being the theme tune with anything to do with motor racing than it is known as a Fleetwood Mac piece. You hear it and the very first thing you think of is motor racing. Check out the link here

    http://www.f1archives.com/intro.htm

for downloadable clips of some of the old BBC 'Grand Prix' opening titles and you'll see what I'm talking about (my favourite is the 1994/1995 one where images of some of the great drivers and races of the past are shown in the bodywork of the car as the camera starts panning back along over the car, "painting" the bodywork as it does so).

Have to admit, the beeb sure used to know a good intro. Check out the snooker or cricket, if they haven't already been butchered beyond recognition.

    Music by the Edge

    Music by the Edge

Did Danny Elfman not do the music for the Animated series as well as the first two Burton Movies?

Prehaps it is a remix of the Danny Elfman Batman Soundtrack but cann't imagine it was the Edge that did these opening credits.

When you say the Edge you mean the Edge from U2?

Some great suggestions so far (esp The Prisoner, Hawaii 5-0, Sopranos, A-Team...)

I'd add Star Trek, the Original Series (totally mind-blowing in its day)
(in fact all Trek shows have pretty cool titles even (yeuch) Pooperprise)

and I like the way the Shield does it, the show is usually half over before they show the titles.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had some fantastic maritime orchestral music over the titles.

Homicide: Life on the Streets had some way cool titles with grainy b+w shots, moody half-lit close-ups, mad drum music and odd ambient sounds before that all became a cliche.

How about the original Avengers (silhouettes of Steed and Emma), original Mission Impossible (remember the lit fuse, great music, dossiers on each team member), Man from Uncle (shooting at themselves in the mirror)?

And lets not forget Miami Vice :p

    The Greatest American Hero

"Believe it or not I'm walking on air...."

    Also, the original Battlestar Galactica

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

after think about it Classice Battlestar and New Battlestar theme tunes both stand out by themselves and set the tone to both shows perfectly

Offtopic: but did anyone notice a couple of weeks ago they played the Classic theme in one of the final scenes
