    6 months of Pet-style indecision finally ended today, when I decided to fully aim my efforts at one particular phd within the college. It's on:
    "Novel element-selective symmetry, polarisation and state resolved investigations of chemical bonding in rutile metal oxide and fluoride systems"
    ...apparently. And I get to use synchrotrons in sweden and americaw and switzerland and such.

    Unfortunately this procrastination led to my missing deadlines for Ussher award, College award, and most noteably, IRCSET. But ah well, the position is fully funded, and I like x-rays.

    Tonight was a bit crazy and strange but in a good way. I mean I may be a little tipsy and my throat really hurts but there were a lot of good things. Why am I on the internet? I should really just go to sleep. Especially since I hate this stuff - when someone is on boards and like 'oh I'll just say all this random crap, aren't I so witty when I'm drunk, and now I'll look back on it the next day and laugh at my witticisms, hohoho i'm funny and life is so good to me'. It's really not funny when people do that. Maybe this should be in the rant/bitch/moan thread instead. Hmmmm. It's a dilemma.

    Ok. Get some sleep. Seriously.

    I am tipsy and I concur. Especially when I am in america and my sister in law assures me that the town we're going to tomorrow is the most adorable town in central America. I have a phobia of tents. We're staying in a dome tent. I'll let you know how that goes.

    In other news, if you happen to have some left over printing credit like I do, I found a way to make it worthwhile. My last 15c of printing credit are being spent on this.

    What was the brief change in aid of? They both have a bit of a space theme... :)

    Woohoo just got the official contract for my summer job in Denmark! Gettin paid much better than expected too :D Getting really excited, too excited to use pronouns. It's well handy work too. "Research assistant", flexi-hours, I'll be living and working with lots of international people my age. It's basically the same as I did for my final year project. i.e. set up the ridiculously expensive machine (big fuck-off laser, vacuum chamber, target and substrate), start the process in motion, then surf the net for 4 hours until it's done. They'll be giving me 15 euro an hour for this, plus pension benefits (you gotta love them socialist scandinavians). And if I get a PhD position, these "skills" will apparently be good to have.

    I totally forgot to post this earlier in the week, but one of the funniest things I've ever seen was our incoming SU Pres and Welfare Officer on the restaurant. It was soo priceless and they kept putting clips of them in saying how the food wasn't up to scratch and then shots of the critics saying how it was actually nearly as good as you get.

    Oh the lollerness. and cringing. Very Cringing.
