Afraid you'll need the line rental no matter what. :(

You will have to pay line rental unless it is a data only line and I think only businesses can get these.

If you get DSL, you will need to have a telephone line and will therefore need to pay line rental.

You have two choices, pay the line rental to Eircom at €25 per month and pay BT for BB or pay BT for both BB and Line Rental.

The second option is better as they will give you a big discount if you get both from them.

You may want to see if you can get Smarttelecom. They aren't charging line rental for the first 100,000 customers.

but it says if you hav'nt had broadband before (which im sure they are talking about as in cable broadband, not IBB wireless crap) and it also says if you get line rental you save on calls with BT Talk, but i dont want their phone service.

other options are Smart, who give free line rental or NTL cable BB which doesn't need a telephone line. THe only problem is that there are not as widely available as DSL from Eircom/BT, but certainly worth checking first.
