High Score Challenge # 1 - EMULATOR

EMULATOR CHALLENGE
The Game : Super Mario Kart (as suggested by several posters)
The Challenge: Fastest Time Trail on the "Ghost Valley 1" track (as suggested by D-Generate)
Additional Requirements: 150 cc class, any carachter

Post your best times here along with the carachter you used.
Overall winner by next thursday gets exclusive bragging rights and the title "Boards Super Mario Kart Champion".

If this weeks challenge goes well we might start a new one same time next week.

You have to unlock it. If I remember correctly that means getting gold in all 50cc and 100cc cup races.

Do you have to use an emulator?

yup its unlocked but when you go to time trial, it does not give an option to pick which cc you want
it just uses 100cc

if you dont use an emulator you will probably be using the pal version of the game right?
so people using an emulated version of the ntsc version will have a big advantage

Yeah, there's no choice of CC in time trial. It's all the same. I thought it was all 150cc, but i'm not gonna argue with bazH.

Here's Mario going fast, but inconsistent. If only I hadn't of messed up the last lap, this would've been a lethal Mario time

And after Mario eased me back into the game (having played Super Circuit and Double Dash a lot, I kept turning in waaay too early for every corner ), I let Bowser take over and break that elusive one minute, eight barrier.

On PAL version, exactly half way between first and second BEEPs (not lights - they're somewhat out of synch).

On NTSC version, right after the first beep. I usually close my eyes so the totally out of synch lights don't confusticate me, then hit the accelerator as a reaction to the first beep. Works every time.

Don't forget to open your eyes again before the first corner!

I've realised somethingI've known for ages. I'm crap at this game. And it's my mothers fault for depriving me of a SNES when I was younger. Can't even achieve a time above 1'25"

The best I could drag out of Bowzer was 1:10.
Question though... were you hopping the gap/shortcut on every lap? That's the only way I could get a laptime under 14 seconds... but I gave up trying to make the jump for all 5 laps without falling off... gaaah that timing is infuriating! :eek:

can you hop the gap without a feather? maybe that's where i was goin wrong.

Always thought you needed a feather. Could get some laps at around 1'15". The others would always be terrible.

My 1:10 was without hopping the gap... the times I used the gap, I'd fall off on other laps and arse up my time.

Yeah you can hop it without a feather (or a shroom for that matter), but it's very tricky timing-wise and you need a fast charicter like bowzer... I find hopping over the yellow ramp just before the gap helps you keep your speed aswell.

My time was without hopping the gap. I still have it saved, so If anyone knows a utility that lets you video capture your desktop, I could upload a vid of it to show.

I can't consistently hop the gap at all
SMK has a thing where if you slide loads around a corner, you get a momentary miniboost, you can hear a slight increase in revs. In MKSC for GBA it's much easier to get this boost and it's a much more pronounced boost.
That boost is almost necessary to reliably jump the gap.

Sniffle I couldn't even do my own track because I loaned the AV cable to someone and didn't get it back in time. Nooooo!
