Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

RTÉ Television has confirmed today that 'The Afternoon Show' has been re-commissioned for a second series and will be returning to RTÉ One with a longer run from September.

RTÉ has said it is delighted with the performance of the show last season, which exceeded audience targets, winning a regular audience of over 100,000 viewers per day.

The show will be broadcast from Monday, 5 September, at 3.15pm, five-days-a-week. The show this year will enjoy an extended ten-month run, until June.

Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and Anna Nolan are back to host the show, but because this extended run overlaps with Sheana Keane's other commitments both in and out of RTÉ, Sheana has decided that she cannot commit to co-presenting the show on a full time basis in the coming season.

Instead, she will join Bláthnaid and Anna in a specialist reporting role, allowing her to accommodate her other obligations.

I am actually glad The Afternoon Show is coming back, i quite liked it, Blathnaid especially!
Im kind of surprised about Sheana. I think they should now get in a new presenter to replace Sheana
full time, maybe Geri Maye or somebody else. Anybody else have any ideas on whos they would like to replace
Sheana. But it doesnt seem as RTE want a replacement for Sheana anyway. I enjoyed the banter on the show and
the topics were quite good. Anyone have any news on "The Big Bite" with David McWilliams? RTE never said
anything on this, i thought it was popular aswell. Any other News?

the afternoon show was AWFUL. Even as a bored student, it never appealed to me. I much prefered Mary&Marty. As for The Big Bite, I'd like to see this return, but it should be longer than 30 mins as with the topics it covers, it seems a bit rushed

In the Herdeld this evening there was a feature about Marty Whelan and apparantly he's doing so well slotting in for big bloated Gerry Ryan that they are looking to put him back on a regular slot on 2FM, possibly Gareth O'Callaghans slot.

Haven't heard him, but I'd say he's brilliant on radio - did it in the past after all. His old-timer quirky persona has a kinda postmodern appeal :)

Yes the Big Bite is probably the best studio-based/chatshow programme RTÉ have launched in 10 years - excellent and worthy of being extended and/or a move to primetime. A possible replacement for the 7pm non-Nationwide gaps duing the week is also an option...

A possibly revamped RTÉ News is also a possible contender with the likely move to widescreen in Sept. Titles etc might stay, but set may well change....

Late Late to return of course, much earlier than Gay's used to - they came back the earliest ever I think last year on the 3rd of Sept - will they go for the 2nd this year I wonder?
A set tweaking is perhaps in order too given how ghastly it is. Considering Pat has about 4-5 years left on the Late Late, they'll probably leave it till next year for a complete revamp to bring him out...

Q&A and Prime Time are desperately desperately in need of revamps, the latter in particular.

I wonder of the 'Hidden Histories' series of docs will make a return - a rare decent delve into the post-Celtic past by RTÉ. They seem to think nothing happened in Ireland between the Celts and 1916

Argh, I can't stand Marty Whelan. As bad as Gerry Ryan is, I find Whelan worse! And to think of putting him in O'Callaghans place is a bit mental. If that man should be anywhere, it's Radio 1, where he would fit in better. Hmm, I'll have to hope that we will soon see another national radio station take to the airwaves, to aid me in choosing from a current mediocre selection! :(

The DJs on 2FM are too old. Have a look at their "presenters" here. So many are in their mid to late forties ...and as for Larry

I've never heard of marty. But as for RTE 2, I'm guessing you can expect a return of The Panel and Just for Laughs, also Des Bishops Comedy Project looks like it will be funny!

Marty has got worse over the years he used to be good, since the stupidity of Fame And Fortune and Open House.
