    Just my tuppoce worth

i rang them on tuesday to see if i could get their service on my groudn floor apartment in bad cover and the next morning to my surpirse the engineer was calling out to my house to see if i could pick up a signal. he was very polite , informative and he knew what i was talking about.

however i wasnt in line of sight so il have to wait till they put up another mast :)

What Eircom pkg are you using. Some of the ICE stats look impressive. The only thing holding me back is the fact that when IBB started out there were also good. However they just signed up too many ppl, the contention rates were crap and the service suffered. I suspect ICE will not make the same mistakes but I think I'll wait a bit. What is the contract timespan, 6 or 12 months?

Dont use onspeed to test your speed. its very unreliable according to several posts i saw on boards.

    Use irishisptest.ie or speedtest.ie

Also use pingplotter to check your pings over about 1000 pings.

Ice used to be good but is probably the worst service i have ever used now.

I have contacted a few people now that i know who use ice and they all have nothing good at all to say about ice since the last 2 months. They say they have the same experience as me. Great for the last year but since beginning september its the worst service imaginable. Speeds going up and down. Very High latency. Anyone with voip cant use their voip but ice are trying to sell them their own voip.

Their support never return email or phone calls.
You will be lucky to get them to answer the phone. There are huge speed problems for the last 2 months and they cant fix it.

By all accounts i've heard in the last 2 months ice have made the same mistakes. Their service is very very very poor since beginning of september and just getting worse.

If you do a search for "icecomms" here there hasnt been a good word said about them lately (unless its by someone who used onspeed as advised by ice to test thei connection).

I knew it was bad but until i searched for posts here and phoned around people i know who are customers i didnt realise how bad ice has been all round.

I just moved into a new place that has Ice already.

I mainly use the internet for online games. Yesterday was fine I was getting 130ms latency in game. Today it is a constant 4000+ms.

I have Icecomms, in Co. Meath for about 6 months now and believe me its another IBB.

They could give a great service they just choose not to, i've been on the phone with tech support for weeks and weeks with them telling me i have a 2 meg line and i can only download at about 100k/s. The pings are very erratic.....very erratic (basically anywhere from 24 - 2000 to jolt.co.uk.

The unlimited download is a good concept, but when there is no download rate to back it up, its terrible! You would expect for €60 a month that the service would be excellent, but its far from it.

Also, all of the traffic is routed straight through to the UK, so my ping to irish servers isnt great. We are actually trying to get rid of them.

    TO SUMMERISE:
    - Not for gamers
    - Expensive
    - Terrible tech support

Stopped reading after a while xD
    but they are pretty bad!
You can play games after about 2am until like 10am
then its back to the ****ters!

What a disgraceful service from ICE. They are utter crap.
    Pings 4000+
voip is no good at all. the breakup is so bad it hurts my ears.
Tech support are the worst i have ever dealed with ... when they even answer.
they keep trying to say there is not a problem with their end and yet when you ask other people in the area with ice they are all having the same problems.
I cant think of s worse service provider in ireland at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

Wish I could have posted my ping results from today.

However I had to come to a mates house to be able to post at all.

4k down was the last result i got from irishisptest and it wouldn't even register an upload speed.

I'm really annoyed at the person who recommended icecomms to me.
    Pathetic service from Ice.
10K per second for me today.

    A warning for everyone.
Dont ever bother getting broadband from them.

I've recommended Ice in the past before speeds dropped (well plummated actually) a couple of months ago. Have them a year now so contract is up and can now gete asdl service so thinking of leaving them...but then again after having a chat a couple of weeks ago speeds have got somewhat better...don't know what the story re the upload spped is though...

Loaded 754,928 bytes in 93.625 seconds from OnSpeed (UK) server.

    New low today

Ice are now saying that there are problems with the base mask, i have told them that they will get no money from me until this is resolved. I think that is the way we have to deal with companies that do not give us the service that we pay for.

i.e Broadband providers who say you are paying for 2mb but you might just get 1.1mb, what is all that about. I will either pay for a 2mb and want a 2mb or else i will pay for a 1mb.

    really pissed with this company

though you will rarely get 2MB on a 2MB package from any ISP

but it does look like a poor service

    cancel

What area are you in madboggar? Has there any improvement since you last posted?

Speeds still fluctuating for me in the ashbourne area.

  • Registered Users Posts: 697 ✭✭✭uRbaN

mick is it generally bad in Ashbourne or only a recent issue?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

It's been bad all over now for the last 6 weeks (if not longer).

    Speeds fluctuate, packets drop.

I just tried to ping a few addresses there and got 50-75% packet loss on all of them.

If you take a look at the forum section of www.irishisptest.com you will see a lot of people in other areas suffering the same problems.

Of course, tech support are not answering calls today nor are they returning messages.

Just as another bump for this. The company I work for just got a backup Icecomms line. What a bunch of chancers. When they where installing the transceiver on the roof we where with them when they tested the connection. All the guy did was hook up the line and load up google. We asked him what the speed of the connection was, and he had already unplugged his connection, he was like "nah nah don't worry about that, its on the internet so you have your connection", he couldn't of left fast enough. First thing we did when we got back into the office was attempt to run a speed test (i.e. speedtest.net) which timed out. We have since been onto them and have told them we will not be paying a cent until they get it up to or close to its advertised speed.

As of today here is a ping of www.jolt.co.uk and a traceroute to www.boards.ie

    Trace complete.

My advice, stay away from them like the plague. The only saving grace of this is that we already have 2 load balanced 4Mb/s lines from eircom here.

I'll post back here once they bother to show up (they told us they would be here "sometime" next week) and see what changes they make to the connection.

btw, the company is based in Swords, which seems to be right on the edge of the range of their mast in Lispopple.

Our service has been pants all week.

Have phoned tech support on numerous occasions and no answer.

    It's so frustrating.

I'm trying to find a broadband provider and Ice is the only one unless I want to go the satellite route, which I don't, I live about a mile from the lispopple mast so I hope I will be sorted for BB otherwise thats it, Digiweb and Eircom both maintain I'm out of range. Just hope the Ice package is good enough for 360 and Wii gaming.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

Our Ice serveice seemed to improve in the New year but these last few days, it's been virtually non existent.

Getting max pauses in excess of 10000ms and most of the time getting download speeds of about 60k.

And, surprise surprise, no one is answering the phones at their technical support desk either.

When you ring through to main reception, you are told that everyone is too busy to talk to you.

How is this company still in business?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

I think because some people don't know what to expect. Some people just have internet access thats faster than dialup and they are happy.

We heard back from them at work, they said "they realigned the antenna for better reception"... surprise surprise it made NO difference to our speeds.

We have no connection whatsoever from ICE today.

Luckily for me, someone around here hasn't secured their wireless modem!

No answer from tech support either.

If I hear that message "For after hours technical support, please visit w w w dot ice broadband dot com" again, I think I'll finally crack up.

    Ggggrrrrr
