Mozilla Foundation to launch for profit subsidary

    Posted this over in News/Media, figured here would be a good place to gauge public response. What does this mean for Firefox and Thunderbird? If they remain free, where exactly does Mozilla plan on making its money?

    On August 3rd, 2005, the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit public benefit software development organization, launched a wholly owned subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. The Mozilla Corporation is a taxable subsidiary that serves the non-profit, public benefit goals of its parent, the Mozilla Foundation, and will be responsible for product development, marketing and distribution of Mozilla products.

    One quote from the press release worried me a little:
    the Mozilla Corporation will focus on developing and delivering end-user products, including marketing, sponsorships and a range of distribution-related activities
    Adverts?!

    They're going to remain free, this Corporation is to make money off selling CD's, books, tech support contracts to business, etc;

    Oh, and even if they did put adverts in - someone would do builds without them... problem sorted. It is opensource, after all.
