ipod mic "hack"

I have been told that the mic adaptors for the iPod are of very poor quality (8khz!). I was hoping to get one but as I'd mainly use it for interviews that needed to be broadcastable (on a podcast at least) they're pretty useless.
Then I came across this little bit of software, which the installation of podzilla would allow a direct mic linkup (with no adaptor needed) and would allow up to 96khz recordings. The only problem is there is no final release for 4th gen models, the type I have!

Does anyone know of any other hacks that I could use, even if it involved buying the adaptor? Thanks.
