    hi,
    hope someone can help. I have just recieved my Esat Zyxel modem. I bought a Linksys Wireless G broadband router ,and 3 usb wireless adaptors.
    I eventually hope to connect 3 Pcs using the Wireless adaptors.
    The Broadband is working fine when I connect a Pc to the modem directly (wired).
    I connected the Linksys to the modem and
    connected a laptop (wired ) to the Linksys and have also installed one of the wireless adators to another Pc:

    Zyxel
    "
    "
    "
    Linksys======Laptop (wired)
    !
    !
    !
    PC (wireless)

    The laptop and the Pc are getting a connection but they cannot connect to the internet (ie they are seeing the Linksys)

    Is there some config I need to do between the Modem and the Router?
    thanks for any assistance

    Essentially you'll need to configure the Linksys to use the settings that are on the Zyxel, (dynamic?) you might get away with just the public dns settings. Also you'll probably need to use a cross over cable between the linksys and the Zyxel.

    I have not done this myself, but there's no reason it won't work.

    You can try pinging a website by IP address from any connected device if you get a response then you need only add in the dns servers and you'll be away.

    hi howard,
    thanks for your reply. i was wondering about the cable between the modem and the router all right.,im using the one that came with the linksys but i didnt check if its a direct cross over cable (unfortunatly at work at the mo so i cant check).
    when you say use the Zyxel settings what exactly do you mean, I entered my esat username and password in the PPOE section , not sure if that was correct.
    tried pinging a website all right..didnt get a reply.

    cheers

    No need for crossover cables, supplied patch cable will be fine. Bridge the Zyxel (can be done using the wizard on the Zyxel), then set the Lynksis up as DHCP server aswell as configuring it for your BB connection. If you have any more ques, come back to me, I have the same setup.

    thanks jm2k, you'll have to forgive me, im new to the whole bb and wireless area.
    i presume there is a wizard for bridging the zyxel, what kind of info should i have ready?
    i guess i have the same question regarding the second part of your answer..what kind of info do i need to have inorder to set up the linksys as a dhcp server and configuring it for bb

    Changing the zyxel to a bridge is in the main config. Original configuration is set to router, select bridge from the drop down menu and you should be sorted.

    See below. Different wireless router but essentially the same. It may help!?

    BTW, I had to keep the ZyXel in 'routing' mode otherwise it wouldn't work
    I spent quite a while yesterday setting up the Belkin wireless router (F5D7230-4) with my BT ZyXel Prestige 600 series modem. It was frustrating at times, but I think these steps should get you up and running in no time;

    BT ZyXel Prestige Modem;
    1) In the web configurator (192.168.1.1) select the following settings;
    Mode - Routing
    Encapsulation - PPPoE
    Multiplex - LLC
    Virtual Circuit ID:
    VPI - 8
    VCI - 35

    Click Next

    2) Enter broadband id and password from BT (make sure "@iolbb" is after your username)
    3) Make sure "Obtain IP Address automatically" is selected. The rest should be fine

    Click through until finished.

    Belkin Wireless Router (F5D7230-4);
    1) Go the the web configurator in your browser (192.168.2.1)
    2) Under the heading "Internet WAN" on the left, select "Connection Type" and choose 'Dynamic'
    3) Make sure the "Internet Status" on the top right says "Connected" (in green text). You will never get an internet connection until this says 'Connected'
    4) Logout

    NB: You may need to wait some time (30mins or so) before trying to use the internet. This happened to me. I had no connection straight after making the above changes, but after going out for 3 hours and returning it was working fine.

    Let me know how you get on!

    Good luck.
