Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Right so I havent a clue but I need to get a basic computer studio set up quick. Im a musician not a techie. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Heres what I have:
Laptop-Not massive in memory, celeron, best I can do for the mo. Ah the student life.
Cubase- Latest edition, I know this program relatively well and dont want to use anything else. I "lost" the manual thats why Im here.

Midi USB Cable, standard midi compatible keyboard. Now this is where I get lost. Ive never used/setup Cubase on my own computer and am not technical enough to understand how it all works. I know tha basics like your midi and audio channells but I know Ill go out and spend money on crap that i dont need.
The laptop does not have a good soundcard so I know thats probably a good place to start. Any recommendations? Keeping in mind cost.
Secondly there'll be three guitar inputs necessary and five or six mics for drum pick up and vocals. Where do I start with this? Do I need to buy a channell desk? Trying to squeeze all those leads into the mic input on the laptop is getting frustrating. Is this just too much for a small setup?Alternatively have you any suggestions that you think Im missing. Be brutal, I admit im thick as sh*t in this stuff.

Are you tracking everything together - ie all tracks at once? Forget it on a computer with that spec. If you're married to that computer, then you can do a stereo mixdown from a hardware mixer but you won't be able to mess with that on the computer. If you need 10 tracks of simultaneous recording, then you'll need a fairly expensive soundcard and a fast computer. You might manage 4 in simultaneously, so thos could work if you recorded to a click track and build the song up a few instruments at a time.
