Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Souness? Off the Ball?

Is it my imagination or is Graeme Souness a complete moron? Every time I read his comments in Sky Sports he comes across like he doesn't have a clue what’s happening!

In the past month he has made so many conflicting comments about Jermaine Jenas and Arsenals interest in him. First he says he'd never sell a player of his quality, Then he says he'll sell him for 20 million. Then he says he thinks Sol Campbell would be a great player at Newcastle (erm...a bit of wheeling & dealing!)

Now he is defending alleged allegations that JJ is unsettled at Newcastle. The reason he gave for this is not his lack of "people skills" (he seems to cause trouble everywhere he goes) but JJ's involvement with the English International team....

..."I have got no problem with him. He has been away with England and I think on those trips they have a few beers in a group and talk about what they are earning. I would imagine not too many tell the truth and I feel he has come back a little unsettled"

Does anyone else think that Graeme Souness is a complete muppet? Or is it just me?

Newcastle are looking like a mid table team again this season. Especially with Shearer(34) as their only fit striker for the start of the season.

    Yes and yes.

The guy is simply THE WORST MANAGER IN THE PREMIERSHIP.

He is on mission to destroy Newcastle United. He has wrecked their squad, sold half of them and brought in a bunch of muppets like Parker. He is clueless, hasn't achieved anything as a manager and will lead Newcastle to a relegation dogfight this season.

Sacking Robson and replacing him with this idiot a decision Newcastle United will regret for years to come.

Hyperbole. He's probably the worst man-manager in the premiership but he's pretty good apart from that. Emre, Parker and Boumsong are excellent signings.

He's a complete assclown as far as I'm concerned.

As far as I can tell his only function as a manager is to take charge of large clubs that have been enjoying veins of success (or flirting with success) and then to systematically run them into the ground.

I don't like the guy at all and I've never even met him! In fact I'd even go as far to say that if by some catastropy he ever became Ireland manager I'd probably start cheering the opposition.

I rate him higher than most on this forum and predicted Newcastle finishing 4th if they get a striker and centre half before the window closes.

God its tough being an ex-Hun manager on this board! ;)

Are you kidding? Muppets like Parker?

Hè's made some excellent signings this year - Boumsong, Emre, Parker, Moore (wouldn't call him top class, but hes a solid defender and free!). Possibility of signing Michael Owen.

Got rid of the rubbish like Bellamy and Kluivert.

    Hun bashing indeed.

Don't get me started on Walter Smith... :D

On-topic, I think Sourness is a pretty good tactician, but an appaling motivator. His man-management skills are non-existent, and unless he learns to check his ego Newcastle will fail to achieve anything under his stewardship.

I can't speak for anyone else here but my own feelings towards Souness are nothing to do with his Rangers connection. I'd probably feel they same about him if his name was Graeme O'Souness, managed Celtic to the Champions League title and bled green and white stripes of blood when cut.

In fact I definetly would feel the same about him if that was the case

What has he acheived as manager. As far as i can remember he has managed
    Southampton
    Blackburn
    Liverpool &
Galatasary (apparantly he is a legend in Turkey!)

I'd nearly put a few quid on him been sacked by Christmas with Alan Shearer taking over as player/manager....or maybe Kevin Keegen might be approached?

    maybe not!

Same here. Remember, he turned a mediocre Blackburn team into one contending in the European spots, he just had a poor last half of the season with them in his last. But one of his major faults is that he just can't seem to get on with his players.

As for the Jenas thing, I thought Souness was trying to arouse the interest and speculation himself by coming out with quotes about not selling him for Campbell when there wasn't much speculation to begin with.

He has made a couple of good signings; Emre and Parker will be a great partnership, and I think they'll surprise a lot of people this year.

I think he is trying to fish about the transfer market. Expect Arsenal and Man U to come in for Jenas in the next two weeks me thinks. 8million would probably do it

Yeah why is everything turned that way? Not everybody is as small minded as some would think.

He will never be sold for £8 million.
He's an england international, he's young and is a bloody good player.
Newcastle are not a selling club, so they will keep him unless the offer is right for them.

As regards Souness being a muppet, I believe his man management is really poor and He should probably have held onto O'Brien and Bellamy until he had replaced them, but it seems to be quite hard in the transfer market this summer.

Expect to see him gone by christmas if he doesn't get in a new striker and centre-half by august 31st.

any non liverpool fans should lick his feet, the guy single handedly sold all liverpools best players and turned liverpool into the disaster they were in the 90's

he has no business managing any team with title aspirations

    he speaks the truth man.

there was no stopping the great players that came through uniteds youth system during the 90's. they were always going to win a few leagues, but english football was blessed the day souness got the liverpool job

I dislike Souness quite a lot but I can't argue with most of his signings , especially Emre the guy is world class  .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,078 ✭✭✭theCzar

I think Souness is a head-banger, I doubt he'll last the season despite all the money he's spent. He HAD a decent team last season, not every player was class but they were a top 8 side with any sort of manager at the helm, he moaned about his players to deflect blame from himself IMO.

Newcastle have a good squad now, and he's bought good players (for a lot of money) so we'll see if he can manage at all

I'm an Evertonian, and he poached Parker and Emre (money grabbing gits) so I hope they all get relegated. :p

He is a bad manager, true he's made some good signings but how long before he falls out with them and sells them on  I dont know how any club would be interested in him as manager, after he gets sacked from Newcastle im sure he'll have trouble finding a club and imo we wont see him in the Premiership for a while.
