regular readers will recall I got a Voodoo to replace my now dead BAe Hawk.

Well ... my Voodoo is nearly ready (apart from a few little things).
Still gotta sort out the Centre of Gravity, and fit the special size spinner that is a perfect match to the fuselage.
It will be ready after the next evening's building session.
Then I have to screw up the courage to chuck it into the sky !

Meanwhile, "Glider Fred" got a video clip of Patrick's Voodoo flying in Dublin Mountains.
It's hard to show cos of the speed. Fred did well to get so much.
First part is slow motion, looks kinda hot-glider-ish there.
But look out for the bit at the end which shows a hand launch, and flying at HALF SPEED ! "
Sometimes, half throttle is fast enough :D

Nice vids, love the fifth element soundtrack ;)

How much is involved in getting a glider up and running from scratch?

Yeah - my reaction when I heard it was "cool ... nice choice of music"

assuming u have transmitter already ....
Nice Airframe with good flight characteristics €75-€150
2-4 x micro servos, receiver, battery €110-€150 (depends on airframe)

If u had transmitter & receiver already, a fibreglass ship could be fitted for under €200

    transmitter? 2 channel or more?

35 FM (not AM) 3 ch or higher.

2 ch is sufficient to fly it close (2ch has limited range), but the type of stick and range we need only appears on single stick 3ch radios, and 4 ch & higher radios.

the right hand stick should be free to move in 2 axis, ie up-down, and also left-right.
So all flying is done with one hand.

If u are serious, send me a PM, I have some old gliders that I've lost interest in, and put them away. There is 3 or 4 in the attic, that I might take a few years to get back to using, built, servos & nicad inside.

I would be interested but not for a while (lot o cash as i would need the raido gear and reciever as well)

Is there anywhere in cork you can go and see them flying?

Yes. There are slope flyers near you.
If you go into the LHS they will guide you down the glowfuel engine, heavy airplane road. Takeoff grass looks nice but mucho expenso senor, many camels effendi, lotsa shekels, etc. :p
The slope soarers are more like surfers, where the club scene is more like speedboats with engines & trailers, if you know what I mean.
Slope soarers do more with less. Radio + plane + wind is all u need. :)
I will get a name/tel no of a local (to you) sloper, and send you a PM later.
