Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Eircom Broadband through Wireless Router

    Hi,

I'm trying to get an eircom broadband working through a new netgear wireless router that I bought and I am having serious trouble.

I have set up a wireless router on eircom before but that time the router had the ADSL modem built in. This time I'm using the Netopia 3346 Gateway and connecting to the wireless router using an ethernet cable.

Am I correct in saying that you don't need to do a MAC address clone when you are using DSL. I think that is only for Cable.

In the basic settings menu it asks does your ISP require a login and when you hit yes it gives three fields to fill in - username, password and Service Name (if required).

Does Eircom use a service name (and if so what is it)?

I don't really understand why the router needs to be given the username and password when this is already stored in the Netopia Gateway.

So here's what I do. Everything is powered off.....switch on the netopia. Wait for it to DSL sync.....then switch on the router....leave it for a minute then boot the PC......No luck.....the PC is assigned an IP etc but the router cannot get an internet connection.

Is the problem that I am using a gateway rather than a simple DSL modem?

Anybody and ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

Well without more information, I cant really be of much help.
But, are you sure your wireless router is set to the setting for DSL?
Ie- dynamic IP, username and password.
(leave those fields blank. Eircom dont require a user/pass anymore, they can tell who you are from your phone number. AFAIK)
