I bought the Colts set - was very happy with them.

However, when I started getting a few lessons my pro pointed out -
    a) the shaft was 1/2 inch short on every club
    b) the grip was too small, which meant my hand didn't sit right
    c) the set was aging quickly (dents & scratches) considering how much I had used them.

She recommended that i needed yo get a better set of irons. She didn't sell me anything (she was just being honest), so I bought a set of Wilson Fatshaft Deep red 2 irons on ebay for €200 from America (including P&P).

My advice is to pay a little bit more for a much better set. I'd advise you to go into Plus 4 Golf in Phibsborough. It's a really old shop with loads of quality 2nd hand sets - and good new ones too. Have a chat with the old lads in there - explain to them what you want and the level you are at. They are very relaxed and aren't really sales men.

If you are ebay-literate I would try out a few sets in whatever golf shops you want - and then buy them on ebay for half the price...

I got a set of spalding excel's from golf works in Spawell for half price!

Only €149 which was a great deal.
3 graphite woods and 9 irons and a putter and a lovely 8 and half inch bag.

i have had them about 2 weeks now and have played 6 rounds of 9 with them and i am well happy.

to sweeten the deal they will customize the clubs for free if i i want with in the next month as long as i bring in my receipt!

the staff in there are very helpfull and even let me head upstairs for a half anhour with the driver and 2 woods to hit some balls and see what i thought.

I'm actually good friends with the manager Connor, I find that Golfworks are a great golf shop who cater for the needs of the customers. As well as that, they have demos of most of their products which is handy

I got the same set of Spalding, in the same shop.

just wanted to know what you meant by "customising the clubs"?

i'm a beginner, and just curious to know.
