How much to pay for a 01 Octavia?

Folks,
If anyone has a general idea how much one would expect to pay for a 1.4 Octavia Saloon , mileage 40k I would love to know!

Private purchase or dealer purchase? If dealer purchase is it a straight cash purchase or do you have a trade-in?

I am looking at one tomorrow and the seller is asking for €8,500. Will try bring
him down a bit depending on condition. I think it's good to know if I'm being shafted or not!

You could nearly get one from a dealer for €8,500 with the added peace of mind of a warranty.

Definately would not pay more than €7,600 for it privately.

I know a guy selling a 1.6, 2002, alloys, spoiler, CD player and loads of extras for 10k. Perfect condition so 8.5k for a 01 1.4 seems a bit steep!
