Why are they eliciting a troubling yet strangely exciting feeling in your loins?

The administration are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, and it is much appreciated. Banner adds have always been there to promote boards and benefits boards, it's just in recent years that the benefit has come through paid for adds. As far as I remember, when we first started getting paid for banner adds, the admins made a commitment that this would not affect "in-house" banners. And it hasn't. Lots of sites would just tell users to feic off, that it was their revenue stream and it wasn't going to be messed with, but the admins here are more interested in the community, then turning a quick euro. That is why we don't have pop ups. But I'm rambling. I wasn't expecting that there would be as much coverage as there has been, it might be a software requirement, it might be that the pervious contracts have run out, or it might be that the admins want to do all they can to encourage the community. I think its the latter.

Shut up and bend over like your momma taught you.

But really, does it bother you that much?
    Its just a banner ad

I would have liked to have seen the "Queer beers" ads interspersed with ads for the paintballing (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=278153), but other than that I agree with what LiouVille said. The admins' committment to in-house advertising is much appreciated. I'd also like to give a thank you to LiouVille for being the next best thing to Trojan when it comes to organising boards events.

In fairness I'm no Trojan. Maybe when its Queerbeers 7 and I'm getting everyone pissed on a tenner, including taxi fair, will I be close to the legend. :D

I find that ad highly offensive.

I have to say it makes the whole process of browsing boards at work quite difficult to be fair, could their be at least be a bit of mix between ads.

    Why?

Well its bad enough when your superiors see browsing the web but to see queer beers banner in the corner with the two fellas is worse, they should be not so prominent .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

How so? They might think you're gay? How does that affect how you do you're job. Truth is you're employer doesn't wan't you browsing the net for personal use, and banner adds with graphics stand out, But thats no different then any banner adds with gaphics. So thats where you're problem lies, and really is a separate issue. Also the whole point of adds is that they have a prominent position.

Tbh I dont want to be considered as gay.

Well why dont you use an adblock in work if they disturb you that much.
All you need do is block star-adserver dot com and you will no longer see them.
The adblock extension to firefox removes the banners par example.

The ads are among the best I've seen btw.

So you don't actually have a problem with the banners adds, just people in your work seeing them and thinking you're gay. Would you not agree that anybody that made that connection is fairly stupid, and therefore there opinion of you is worthless? If there is an add for a car on boards, do people presume you are a car? If the mustard forum had banners up, would people presume you liked mustard? Fair enough you don't want to be considered gay, but your concern is verging on the ridiculous.

Loving all the praise I'm getting btw :)

Thats how office rumours start though. Someone oversees an advert next thing you know everyone thinks you look at gay porn in work.

Thank you Hobbes thats exactly it .

    Why would they think that?

Nothing I can really do about that though. If people read Queer Beers as Gay Porn then I can't really be expected to pander to such childishness, and seriously doubt the admins will either. I really do see that as a leap only someone of astounding stupidity and immaturity could make. unfortunately I do believe some would make it. If It's a serious problem, make a case to DeVore, It's not my site, I don't decide what happens to it.

No-one was equating Queer Beers to Gay porn, but as pointed out, its amazing what can come out of a simple false interpetation....as someone mentioned, the queers beers banner could suddenly turn into "Did you know X or Y looks at gay boards/porn?"

I don't know, but I suppose no harm done, if you are at work, I suppose either do your job, or get an ad blocker!

Anyway, good adverts, hope everything goes well for your event.

Yea in reponse to that , I agree the ads are great, and I have nothing against gay people at all. But I will be installing ad-block because it is the little things like this that start said rumours in the workplace.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,991 ✭✭✭✭Stark

The guys have a point in a way LiouVille, the ad with the 2 guys in leather does look a bit dodgy for people viewing boards in work. And I think what Amz was saying is that she's not a lesbian ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

I think it should be limited to the lbg forums. Surely we dont ALL need to know about it.... in the same way communications tele2 etc adds should only appear in the coms section etc. but i dont see that type of advertising happening any time soon.

I think queer beers is a great idea but the only thing I take offense is that its continually displayed and especially the one with the two guys . There should be a healthy mix between the queer beers ads and the normal ads.
