Sorry MyCroft do have a vendetta against me , I have to ignore it previously but what is your problem. Sometimes people whom of which are homosexual do nowadays try to shove it in our face a lot more , it dosen't mean to say I have any things against homosexual. It can be annoying if your gay be gay simple as that .

Shove it in your face? How? By coming up to you and saying. "Hello. I'm a homosexual. Here are some photographs of me shagging a man. Would you like to join in"? What are you objecting to? Do you have a problem with gay people simply, say, holding hands (like heterosexuals do) or kissing (like heterosexuals do) or things like gay pride (celebration/protest events are common among minorities who aren't as oppressed as they once were, but where there is still room for improvement)? Would you like to go back to the old days, where it was banned and people hid it?

Of course, heterosexuality is NEVER glamourised on the television. Do you really think people look at the television and think "oh, look, gay people are cool; I'd better become one"? Are you deranged? Lets see if it works.

"Canceling your internet subscription is cool".

Quite right, it's not a disease, as such, it's just stupidity.

On a marginally related note, I always found "gender preference" and extremely silly and misleading term. Am I alone in this?

Indeed. :) btw where I work they are heavy into giving equal right to GLB. Even have rainbow posters out in the hallway.

I would be more worried that someone was thinking I was surfing pron then anything else.

To expand on this.. the adverts promote the typical glb stereotype that they are all sex starved and trying to groom people to join their club*. Lets face it the lesbian advert is focused at the hetrosexual male (only because they think its cool because they can imagine themselves with the two girls).

If we to have a normal boards beer adverts I am sure people would be coming up with the same argument if you had two scantly clad woman with the topic "Boards Beer:These women will sleep with you if you come!".

    * I have quite a few glb friends and I can tell you they act like normal people. Isn't that scary!

Ok, here's my thoughts on this.

    1. The ads work like this. each is given a "priority" and if there is competition for ads space (ie: say we want to show 100k eircom ads and 100k Esat ads and 100k QB ads and we only have 200k impressions a day) then the expected number per day will be divided between them in ratio to their priority. In addition if we have too MANY, the house ads get whats left. Right now we dont have many paying ads so the QB ads are getting lots of impressions.

    2. It never occured to me that this would happen but when it did I just shrugged. And wondered how long this kind of thread would take to start.

    3. I can take the points being made about workplace and uncomfortability. Thats an unfortunate side effect of humanity and gossip etc.

4.I'm not completely unsympathetic to it. I happen to have a job where I could care less but thats my good fortune.

    5. The reason the paintball ads havent gone up is that I havent seen a thread with paintball ads ready to go in it (please point me to them if I've missed them) and also it appears not to be on until Sept 24th therefore the QB's would get priority in general.

    6. To resolve all of this in a reasonable fashion, I'm quite happy to put up paintball ads and I also happen to have a couple of other house ads that will be going up during the week. I certainly am not sorry the QB ads got precedence this week but they have certainly got the exposure they needed now and can be mixed with others.

    7. Those lesbian girls are hot.

    8. I will be back in town and I might wander along to it myself. My hair really wants to go. I wonder how many people will get that in joke :)

    DeV.

I linked to a ticket in the second part of that private message i sent out.
here are the banners for paintball. there Is only one week left to sign up to this event, so banner are more use now then later.

Btw thanks Tom very much appreciated.

I specifically made that add to be directed at lesbian and bi women. There was some concern at this being a male dominated event, and I wanted to encourage women to come, so I made a lesbian specific add. This is a QueerBeers, and though all are very very welcome, I would not go out of my way to promote directly to hetro males. Not everytime two girls kiss, is it for a the arousal of the male audience. I was well aware that that might be a side affect of the banner, but I'm not going to shy away from something if I think it works. It doesn't arouse me in the least, but I still think its a good add with a good message. Also three of the adds pander to stereotypes, one sexual, one social, and one that all lesbians are cool as far as I'm concerned I gave a healthy mix.

I understand :) and tbh I don't have a problem with any of the adverts (the guy one thought was funny cause the guy looked a bit like amp).

If it was a woman kissing her grandmother probably.

You could programme robots to argue this thread:

Robot 1: Angry, Right-On robot in "I'm Queer!" t-shirt who assumes anyone who might not wish to see an ad banner with two men fisting each other are either a) closet homosexuals or b) gay-killing nazis

Robot 2: Right-On straight robot who assumes that if you're gay, you're not open to censure therefore everything you do and say is intrinsically right, otherwise you're being oppressed. Also open to the odd **** over Lesbo Porn, which oddly never features genuine 18 stone hirsute lesbians in Aztec Pattern jumpers, walking boots and 18 inch long dangly earrings.

Robot 3: Thinks pouves are wrong and they should not be allowed to peddle their filthy wares on the interweb.

Tbh I dont want to drag this out any further than what it has been drawn out. For my insensitive ignorance I have apologised what more can I do. Apart from the point I was really trying to make was , I dont think anyone including myself would have a problem with gay people only for the whole camp thing or in some cases dressing up as women.

What I am saying if your are gay great fair deuce to ya for realising your sexual orientation. I also stated the fact of gay people being always in your face, what was meant this remark was that a lot of tv shows portray gay people in a very bad light.

You have shows like big brother just an example , where one of the gay guys dressed like woman my question is why, where as derek seemed and extremely sound and upstanding bloke who didnt feel the need to be continually camp because of his sexual orientation.

Now I know its said alot but I do have gay friends and they are normal , they dont act camp.

I find everything about these ads to be offensive. I am opposed to the promotion of fun, pleasure and enjoyment at all levels and through all means.

Such things are to be enjoyed discretly and not pushed in the faces of others. Please bear in mind that many people have to see such ads in work and it may be rumoured that they are fun people who openly have fun.

Now this country should not, but it does discriminate against such. Fun is not something to be proud of nor is it something that you should push in other's faces. Seriously, the Bible quite strictly and unequivocally states this!

Some people are naturally camp. What is your problem with this? What is your problem with people acting like they want to act, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone? (Btw, transvestism as a fetish is quite common among heterosexual males, you know.)

Campness for some reason annoys me. It doesn't matter if the person is gay or straight.

Then again, I wouldn't claim it's a rational annoyance. Just has always bugged me.

Thats how office rumours start though. Someone oversees an advert next thing you know everyone thinks you look at gay porn in work.

Yeah I agree, just the other day one of my work colleagues who didn't use the Internet and didn't realise what a banner ad on a website was, saw me looking at the Broadband forum and low and behold there was a banner ad for eircom on it. So, him not being in anyway experienced went off and rang the IrelandOffline Snitch Hotline and reported me for being a spy in their ranks. Man, the explaining I had to do over that, lucky I only had to lose one of the small fingers.

Some of the nicest banner ads I've seen anywhere. Let's face it we all mentally block out banner ads and have been doing so for years, but some of these stood out while remaining tasteful.

    Great job.

Nothing says 'tasteful' quite as eloquently as a semi nude gay man bound in leather. Classay.

I've certainly used the name, but can't take credit for it. It was definitely used by one of the hetrosexually-challenged community in reference to (possibly the first official) Queer Beers in The Front Lounge (where they were outnumbered ~2-1 by the homosexually-challenged boardsies).

Actually, I hadn't seen that particular one when I posted.
I wouldn't say it was tasteful as such, but it's more silly than anything else really.
