Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi
im looking for the above car but am finding it difficult to get a value on such. has anyone found any websites which do this? they can range from anything from a couple fo thousand to mid teens in classifeds.

also has anyone bought a car through ebay and is it recommended? they seem to have the best prices.

are there any known problems with the 280 sl?

    Any help appreciated

You mean 280 SEL? The 280 sl went out of production in the early 70s.

Anyways for all the info and help on S class variants check out here.

The 280SL (RC107?) was made until about 86 when it was replaced by the 300sl. Great cars, don't know much about them but my Dad nearly bought one when the values dropped after the next-gen SL came out.

This looks like quite a nice one

    Hart to Hart!

You'll get no end of hassle driving one of them in this country too many begrudgers.

    Feck the begrudgers.

Besides, I would consider these cars nicely understated.

Agreed, a W107 SL is a beautiful car, and great fun to drive, especially this time of year when you can take the top down and cruise along in real style at affordable prices.
Because, they were built for so long ('72-89), there's a great supply of parts available - provided you can figure out what's wrong with it.! The mechanics can be a bit complicated so it's important to do your homework or know someone familiar with them.
There's a great supply of info at www.SL107.com
Also for a full price listing, try Guide Prices
    Best of luck :)

There are a huge number of these cars for sale all the time but the price range is huge. The reason is that a car in poor condition could cost you many times its value to correct !

The old adage "buy the very best you can afford" applies very strictly to these cars. They are built like nothing else on earth but they can still, and do, rust, which is very expensive to repair if it is structural.

eBay is fine IF you can visit or arrange an inspection before you bid, and if the seller has good feedback (close to 100% with plenty of sales behind him/her)

Otherwise decide on a budget and contact mercseller.com I know a lot of folk who have bought through this guy and he is well recommended. You should also try joining the Club www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk as the monthly Gazette has plenty for sale !

I doubt you would get begrudgers. People who would begrudge cars would just look at it and think it was just an old Merc, not worth a lot of money. Which it isn't really.
