It's very slow for me too, although there are only 882 users online.

And I'm on a 4Mb/4Mb connection here at work!

Cloud is reorganising some of the menus and creating new forums...maybe that's slowing it down.

Also, i think the staradsever thingie is acting up again

Its been slow all day, as Scotty might say "she canna take the strain Captian".

I dont think star adserver is the culprit though.

Would trimming the database help at all ? Maybe archive all threads with no new posts in the last year and make them available on another server (it'd get . I've seen this work well on other sites in the past.

I don't think vBulletin scales very well with higher amounts of users. It is very database intensive.

The awful forums, one of the busiest vbulletin forums around, had huge problems when they hit the 1000 - 1500 concurrent user mark. Their own programmer rewrote alot of the code to make it more efficient. They commonly have over 6000 logged in users without problems now.

They are running a much older version of vBulletin so I don't know if this is true for this version.

vbulletin 3 is SO much heavier than vbulletin 2, its just not right. When we moved from VB2 to VB3, we immediately had to upgrade the hardware.

Cheeky suggestion - why not downshift to vB 2?

    Mike.

    Mike.

smilies were cooler...but wasn't/isn't there some sort of security issue with vB2?

    Bring back the vB2 smilies.
    The vB3 ":)" looks terrible.

There's some argument for moving to an extremely light-weight feature-free handwritten forumy thing. :)

Yeah, the smilies were one thing I never got used to, they look like tablets or "Love Hearts" sweets.

    There's a bit of attachment to the feature-richness of vb3 :)

Suppose we all agreed to use a smaller font?
Would that make the db smaller and load faster? :D
