    Hi all,

I'm looking for a decent enough card to play Half life 2 and Far Cry. Any recommendations? I'd like to keep costs around €200 if possible and i don't mind if its ATI or Nvidia.

    Cheers

    6600GT? No-no-NO!!

Get an ATi X800-based card; it'll run HL2 way faster than the nVidia. And it'll trounce it at Far Cry. And any other game you care to throw at it. And --- it's cheaper!!
Check it here and here, though I'm not sure if prices include shipping...

    Except Doom3.

Well to PLAY halflife 2 and far cry, they're playable on a GeForce 4 MX440, but if you want a res higher than 640x480 in half life 2, you'd need a better card...

I'm pretty sure the X800 can beat the 6600GT at Doom3 too, or give it a very close-run 2nd.

On a second note, if you're buying AGP, it's probably better to try to find a 256mb nVidia GeForce 6800, rather than a 128mb 6600GT; but not in PCI-Express. That's where you stick to the X800. More on that here.
