When I renewed with Adelaide last January I asked if they did car and bike policies. They said that they do but that it's generally only for the UK. But they did tell me to ring their Irish underwriters (Cornmarket) when my car insurance was up (July) and see if they would give me some sort of discount.

Unfortunately Cornmarket don't quote for my type of car. Maybe someone with a quote-worthy car would have better luck.

    Adelaide quote today....190 euros.
    Nice one, cheers for posting.

I'm pushing 50 and they were initially quoting me €240+ for my old CB-1 400 (1989) with a three-year NCB.

I asked them was that an insurance premium or a cash offer :D, quoted them your numbers and managed to get them down to the same price (€190) for full comp on the CB-1. For some reason TP or TPFT was only a euro cheaper...

    I'm 54 and paying €324 for TPF&T with Liberty on my GSX1400.

My quote on the Fazer got bumped up to 826 til I rang them 4 times pissing each person off enough to change the details they kept fcuking up.

They were quoting me on an FZR 600 R and insisting it's the same category..... it's just not.

Eventually got it down to 675.... but may argue that yet in the Liberty Insurance forum.

As of today, I'm back on the bikes after taking a 9 year sabbatical!

    I'm 33, full licence for 10 years.

    Bike: Honda CBR 600rr

Quote: €670 Fully Comp with Adelaide.

I don't think it's too bad a quote for the bike and for someone with 0 years NCB. Said it should come down a good bit next year.

    Moped -'05 49cc

Quote : Carol Nash €290 - third party only! Couldn't believe it seen as its basically a hairdryer! Liberty similar, Aon were a pain in the butt on the phone so I gave up.

Got the renewal letter in today so made a few phonecalls earlier

Male. 23. BMW R1150GS. Fully comp. 6 years ncb

    Liberty (Renewal) €419
    Carole Nash €899
    Aon €1350
Adelaide were closed but don't think they want my business anyway.
Got cut off from MCE after 12 mins on the phone. They never rang back and got a bad impression of them off the phone so won't bother with them.

Another year with Liberty then. Pity as would like to have the option to ride other bikes.

I'm 16 and I was quoted €3,484 for an Aprilla RS50. Does this seem reasonable to any of you guys?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭AgileMyth

No! Who was it from? Liberty will be your best option.

You don't want to hear this but... Don't get an RS50. Just pick up a moped or a 125 4 stroke.

I've always wanted an RS50 to be honest. The quote was for fully comprehensive if that makes it sound any better.

Get one next year after you've built up some no claims bonus. Can't see the point in fully comp if it costs way more than the value of the bike.

  • Registered Users Posts: 215 ✭✭Walshey96

Yeah I suppose I'll try that. Cheers for the advice.

Time again to renew my yearly insurance on my 2 Vespa PX's. I am with AON and they want €300 for fully comp on a full licence, 5 years NCB, 45 years old.

Its the exact same price as last year to be honest. I will be ringing around the other companies for quotes, trying Adelaide first as I've heard good things about them here on this forum...

    Got quoted 295 from Adelaide
    Age 43
    Full licence 20 years
7 years ncb (its actually more but I think it only goes up to 7)
    fully comp
    250 excess
Ride other bikes provided they're insured by the person giving them to you
    roadside assistance

My Liberty renewal is 325 3rd party only

Might get on the blower to Adelaide and ask them to bring it down if they want to seal the deal
    Anybody bargained Adelaide down?

Last year Liberty tried upping my quote by €50, chancers !!

    Male. 45.
Vespa PX200 & LML Star Deluxe PX125. No modifications. garaged. no pillions.
    Fully comp. 6 years ncb.
Full Irish A Licence since 2005.

Just as I was about to renew with AON for €300, Adelaide rang me and offered €295. Said I'd think about it and rang them back 15 mins later and they dropped again to €278. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,572 ✭✭✭Skill Magill

Shot off an email to Adelaide saying their quote was more or less the same as my renewal with liberty (I omitted telling them it was for third party only) and they dropped it to €255 fully comp.
I'm still being ripped off but not as badly as with liberty :)

What excess are MCE asking for? Any other quotes I have heard have said that the excess is €750 which makes the quote from them pretty useless imo.

Anyone have any idea which is the best company for young drivers? :)

I asked for a quote with an excess of 500 as that's what my Adelaide excess is. I wanted like for like policy details so i could effectively compare the two quotes.

Tbh i dont think a high excess makes a policy useless. Its not like im going to claim unless i absolutely wreck the bike so worst case i pay out 500 quid. And its fully comp insurance too.
